"There's been quite a buzz locally about this relatively new little restaurant in Mauves so we tried it out on our wedding anniversary last week (see photo of lovely personal touch with our dessert having mentioned that it was our anniversary when ordering a coup de champagne . I can't see any reviews in English so I'm adding this for english speaking visitors to the area. Not that the restaurant needs promoting it is almost always booked up, often days in advance, even for lunch the host told me (local businesses etc, rather than tourism. Anyway, we had a lovely evening here and would certainly recommend, although with some caveats and I think it will be more appreciated by locals than tourists. The single inside dinning area (I couldn't see much of a terrance out the back for the summer has been decorated in that sparse modern chic style with nice artistic touches, that is increasingly popular with restaurants in France (downside is hard metal chairs . The menu is pleasingly short (choice of three dishes for each course and al la carte (so you could just have two courses or four like I did . When it arrived, we were slightly disappointed by the food, given what we had heard, but that's the problem with expectations! I ordered the chicken wrap as a starter (I don't eat escargots or sweetbreads, the other choices yes I do live in France! , and it was just that, a cold chicken salad wrap, nice enough but a bit dull. My marinaded porc main was more interesting but slightly overdone and the dish lacked balance. Diana's lapin (rabbit done in the old way (roasted? only accompanied by mushrooms, needed something green. After that things ended on a high excellent beautifully prepared cheese dish, then perfectly gooey chocolate fondant. Accompanied by gorgeous Saint Joseph wines by the glass (including local ones from Mauves at very reasonable prices. Overall, really excellent value for the whole meal, less than €80 for two and charming front of house host who speaks english, so four stars. We should come here again to try other dishes that might argue for the fifth star. Suggest visitors on the wine trail book well in advance for lunch around wine tasting at Gonon, Coursodon and Grippa in the village as well as Courbis nearby. Otherwise Mauves is a strangely dead place particularly at night and you will find more interesting surroundings in Tournon or Tain, especially if you want to sit outside in summer."
