this bar is the place that is just known by the locals. we did not try the food, but the love was amazing (it was our first time.) the owner was really friendly and he asks them some questions what they normally drink to find the perfect alcohol for them. the price, I think, is higher because of the quality of drinks, but totally worth the experience! read more.

Absolutely DO NOT GO HERE. I would give it 0 stars if I could. The worst experience of our whole Japan trip. The owner is the rudest and most condescending individual ever met and yet all he does is serve sake at a bar...I can only imagine how he would handle himself if he had a more serious job than bartending. Yoramu-san, is a genius of a sake geek and the owner of this places. He made me more interested in sake. I even went for 2 straight nights. It's a 6 seater soba...

Amazing service, kind and knowledgeable owner. He will listen your tastes and suggest a sake accordingly. English spoken and cash only. Worth trying.

"Kikunoi honten in gion maruyama is a fine eating Japanese ryotei, served kaiseki curs. it is not only a very good restaurant, but also a Kyoto institution of my opinion! I came here several times in different seasons. every time I felt happy and satisfied. the kitchen depends on the seasons, and they observe what they had before and managed not to serve the same kitchen as their last visit. service is always top class, and this is a place where they stay on their eating up to 2.5 hours."

"This place is definitely a hidden gem. We tried a lot of coffee in Kyoto and this was by far the best espresso. Beautiful tiny cafe situated in an old greenery lined building. The staff were super friendly and nice. Even though it’s a smaller space, there are pleasant benches to sit on outside and we choose to get our cappuccinos to stay. Highly recommend visiting!"

"As noted, make sure you book three days in advance. You’ll be served in separate tatami rooms- in our case, it was just our party of five to a room. We ordered the largest set, which was pricey but well worth it- massive amounts of food, all clearly prepared with love and care. This is not an exhaustive or particularly accurate list, but my set included rice, pickles, mushrooms, tofu, two different soups, matcha and mochi for dessert… needless to say I left full."
