"We always look forward to eating at 'Sticky Rice' in Wickham. The food has always been fresh and delicious but today as we dropped into Newcastle on our way through to Canberra we experienced poor service and VERY ordinary Thai? food. We were greeted abruptly with " eat in or takeaway?" We found our own table and ordered from the menu only to be told that we could only order from the lunch menu which doesn't offer the same choices. The pad Thai noodles were undercooked and tough to eat. The stir fried duck and vegetables was mostly fat and skin, smelt rank (off) and tasted like it had been soaked in vinegar. To top it off the food was luke warm! I honestly believe the duck was off and had been soaked in vinegar and recooked. My Macedonian mother in law (chef) confirmed this. I will add that the dish was mostly rice and large chunks of fresh, yes fresh vegetables. $$ for vege and rice. This cute little restaurant is by no means a restaurant offering delicious Thai Street food , but rather a dodgy cafe offering second rate food that is laden with sugar and by no means Thai. Sadly we won't be returning to 'Sticky Rice' nor will we be recommending to Friends or family.Disappointed is an understatement !"

"We spent two nights in Newcastle recently and had a meal at the Star Hotel on our first night. The decor is inviting, the staff were so friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious, so much so that we went back for our last...night in Newcastle. The staff were also very knowledgeable about the dietary requirements for coeliac disease"

"The food is nice, but that's where the experience ends.As they don't accept eftpos, I can see no reason they should not split bills. They do not have several eftpos transactions to pay for, and they use pen and paper for taking orders. No computer systems needed. When paying, however, we were asked to pay all in one transaction. The woman at the counter said this is because other restaurants don't split bills (yet they accept eftpos). I was asked, in a belligerent manner, if I would have paid for the entire group if they DID have eftpos.Eventually, very reluctantly, she allowed us to pay separately, but as this was a needlessly embarrassing encounter, I will not be back... Even though their food is good. There are plenty of other options for delicious Italian food in Newcastle suburbs to have to endure such poor service here again."
