"We only stopped one night in Basel and strolled into the pedestrian area of the old town to find a place to eat. It was late and we were hungry. Schnabel had a good menu and pleasant seating outdoors, so we only have pot luck. We were not disappointed at all. A charming waiter made us welcome. We chose a protected outdoor table in the side passage, although there is also a very attractive traditionally decorated dining room. We had only two main courses plus salads and a few drinks: spits, grilled salmon with asparagus (in season) local beer. The food was delicious, generous and beautiful. The location was quiet and attractive. Prices were average for Switzerland, which is expensive! But we enjoyed our meal, the quiet location and the friendly and very efficient service very much. Thank you. Beak for a pleasant evening."

"Great place for an authentic, organic breakfast/brunch. Very friendly owners. You can chose a salty or sweet breakfast and they also serve granola or eggs. For lunch/dinner there are days with fix dishes or a la carte. The interior is a beautiful mixture of old tables/chairs and stylish lamps. One of my favorite places in Basel"

"Was here with friends for a spontaneous dinner. Really nice interior, great staff and delicious food. A refreshing athmosphere, definitely a goto-place. Dishes could be a little bigger, but still reasonable for the price. Can recommend the schnitzel!"

"Was here in August with friends and family. Food was brillant, I dare say 5 pluds, service to die for. All staff paid attention to detail. Perhaps this was because my friend made the reservation, is a premium customer that orders regularly and the restaurant makes deliveries even though that was not their custom.... get my drift?Fast forward to October, I made the reservation as it was my birthday. Service was good but no way what we experienced in August. Food, just okish. Given this, I am inclined to agree with other reviewers that the food is overpriced.There has been no change in management. Given this, will definitely not be returning.Consistency is EVERYTHING!"
