"The food was ok, tasty, even if nothing special. We appreciated the wine, though its quality was not as high as its price. We were served by the competent and kind waiters. What spoilt the experience, however, was the behaviour of the patron. He totally ignored us, whereas he courted other clients quite vigorously. Even when he was receiving payment from us, he asked his guests sitting at the table next to ours 'how was it' (meaning, food and wine) from above our table. Well, he definitely has failed to ask us.... And yes, I do speak French and English, so no communication problem involved. This is not what you expect in an elegant place, and La Cave d'Yves obviously aspires to be one."

"Having eaten here a couple of times a few years ago, we feared they could not have maintained the high level of quality with all of the success they have so deservedly experienced. We raved about them before, feeling we had found a culinary gem in this city of such delightful food. Now they are no longer a find but a sought after place to dine. Far from being disappointed, we were yet again in awe. We vacationed on the Riviera in June and ate in some remarkable places, including one owned by a top chef in the world. While other menus may dazzle your imagination with variety, Da Aldo captures your heart with its pure perfection and nuanced simplicity. The owners were welcoming and warm, the recommendations spot on and the timing of the food service was impeccable. It was the only place we have eaten in France where the food was hot...as if good friends were bringing it straight to you from their kitchen. And, of course, the food was sublime. The smoked trout pasta was a marvel and the pecorino truffle ravioli divine. I say of course, but excellence of this kind is not a given. It is really hard to maintain this level of superlative quality. People in life who achieve this perfect their talent and what they know to be true until it becomes the art it was meant to be. This has happened here in this small and charming place of elegant excellence. It was an honor to again experience it. We are grateful and will continue to gush about it...obviously."
