"We've been to Short Stack previously and really enjoyed it. That's why when our friend was in town and wanted to go out for breakfast, we took her to Short Stack. It was a Friday morning @9:00.

They place is quirky and fun. The tables are glass w/old post-cards and envelopes under the glass. Mason jars and whisks have been refurbished into lamps and chandeliers. Great atmosphere.

We ordered at the counter and then took a seat in the window. Although busy, it was not particularly crowded and our food arrived within a reasonable time-frame. Everything looked amazing. My dining companions ordered the breakfast sandwich and a skillet and really enjoyed them. My food however was not so good. I ordered the Cajun biscuits and gravy and poached eggs. The Cajun gravy was quite tasty but the biscuit was bone-dry and rock-hard. Even using a knife it was tough sawing through the biscuit. Worse, was the poached eggs. Although very pretty, served snow white in a sundae glass, they were hard-boiled inside. I'm not talking slightly overcooked, these were hard-boiled eggs inside. Completely solid. I know poached eggs can be tricky to cook, but this was ridiculous.

So, a couple of dishes were off, not the end of the world. But the service was also really disappointing. Literally we were completely done eating and nearly ready to leave before anyone came back to our table to ask how it was. I think the only reason she came back was to clear the dishes. I mentioned the eggs and she said she'd mention it to the cooks. Since she could actually see the hard-boiled yolks left in the dish, I thought she should offer to provide new ones. She didn't and I wouldn't have taken her up on it anyway since we were already done eating, but again I felt like it would have been appropriate for her to offer. She also finally asked if I wanted a refill on my ice-tea which I did since it had been almost empty when the food first arrived. Just checking on us 20 minutes earlier would have been better.

We have had good food and service there previously. My companions enjoyed their food today, but this was a very disappointing experience for me."

"Checked this place out on a weekday for lunch on a whim with my husband. I had actually been a couple months in, on a no-meat diet and wasn't sure what I'd be able to find on the menu, that would agree with me, but hesitantly agreed to eat here.
Ordering is done at the counter, and there are two dining rooms from which you can select seating. I actually ended up choosing a pulled pork sandwich and surprisingly enjoyed it! Really great smoked flavor, and tender meat. A choice of BBQ sauce flavors and heat levels are available that you can pump out into a cup yourself from a counter at the end of the room.
If I were to have a pulled pork craving, this would be my second choice. My first and favorite choice is Bob's Bitchin' BBQ in Dodgeville. That BBQ Joint is a great choice for no-frills nicely done BBQ meat. It can get quite busy during the lunch hour, so be aware of that if you're stopping on your lunch break. I recommend calling ahead for pick up if time is an issue."

"Why am I just now finding out about this cozy little spot?! My girlfriend and I stopped in for dinner tonight. The Friday walleye was a fantastic dish. The fish was flavorful, slightly crispy and wonderful with their tartar sauce. The slaw was perfect- not drenched in cream sauce like some places. We loved our salads and clam chowder, and my girlfriend loved the tomato broth mussels. The space is small, but not cramped. Cozy and comfortable. Besides the great food, they had kombucha which made me happy. And the service was everything I hope for when eating out. I forget her name, but she was perfect. Always checking in at the right time, knowledgeable about the menu, fun and kept the water glasses full. Her male co-server grabbed empty dishes as he walked by which shows that both servers know how to work together to bring the best service possible to their tables. The Spot will become a regular place in our rotation thanks to their great food, cozy atmosphere and awesome service!"
