"This is one of our top favorite restaurants in the Boston area. Since we discovered it a couple of years ago we have been dining here wirth family and/or friends at least 10 times, and we 'll keep coming. Quality and service is consistently superb. The manager is very kind and personable, and our favorite waiter (Adam) is just great. Some highlight items we highly recommend: XO Toro tuna, A5 wagyu, softshell crab tempura, yellowtail and king salmon sashimi, and the unique Japanese uni/quail egg 'shots '."

"Basho has hot pot now! Yay!! Went here specifically to try their hot pot, since there has been a lack in the area since Swish Shabu closed a few years back.We were initially seated in the regular section but when the waiter learned we wanted hot pot, we were then moved to the hot pot section that has the tables with the heaters.We ordered 2 broths chicken broth and goji berry broth, one order of the chicken combo which comes with a side of veggies and rice, and we also ordered a side of ramen. Technically the combo orders are for one person but it seemed like enough food for two. We could have ordered a second one or a few extra sides, but in the end it was ok.Both broths were on the mild side I thought the goji berry broth had a really interesting tangy sweet flavor. The condiments (garlic, hot sauce, soy sauce) helped add flavor, but we've had broths like tonkatsu in other shabu places which is really quite flavorful and would be good to add here as an option imo. The other broths included a spicy one and a Tom yum broth which would be worth trying at least once.The hot pots at times would start boiling over quite rapidly and we were worried they might boils over, but the servers came by to check and moderate the heat. Also we realized that adding ingredients into them calmed them down a bit so it was a bit of nervous action going on ha ha!Overall nice experience to try out once."

"Many many wonderful meals between 2000ish and 2019. Our first meal at FuGaKyu since 2019. Food quality was very uneven. Unagi, tobiko and Hokkaido uni sushi were wonderful. Nigiri strangely very large so a good value. Ikura salmon eggs were cloudy changing the flavor. We eat Japanese a night or two a week rotating amoung 4 restaurants in the Fenway, Back Bay and South End. Hamachi Kama was so so. No match for our other four restaurants. Chicken teriyaki and beef teriyaki think freezer burn. Service was good. Decor ery atmospheric as it has always been"

"My favorite store in the area, they have a really nice variety of goods, the food at the restaurant is delicious, and the staff is always very friendly. I enjoy that they have a table displaying a special set of goods on sale for the season, and they often have little festivals or fun things like that. It's a small detail but I also appreciate that they include tax in the displayed price at the restaurant."
