"I'm not sure if it was just an off night, but the food did not live up to the rave reviews and we were thoroughly disappointed with our experience. Aside from the pasta dish (which was quite delicious and unusual), the food was frankly bland. The appetizers were flavorless and unappetizing one of them tasted like a fish salad made from tuna in a can. The worst part of the meal was the beef for our main course the spice crust was overwhelming and completely overshadowed the taste of the meat, which would have been lovely had it just been prepared on its own. I literally had to cut off the spice crust in order to eat it. Everyone at the restaurant was very nice and welcoming, but the service lacked finesse and felt uncoordinated. We had 6 different staff members ask us the same question within just a few minutes. Everyone was friendly and well intentioned, but it made it a bit hard to keep a steady conversation and it ultimately felt a bit over bearing. As far as the ambiance and decor, I much prefer restaurants like Vine Street Cafe or North Fork Table Inn, which feel a bit more modern and authentic. 18 Bay is cute, but it needs lipstick and better lighting would go a long way to creating a more welcoming atmosphere. The two ceiling fan light fixtures in the main dining room are frankly really unattractive and are hard not to notice. Overall, we were expecting great things given all the reviews, but our experience was so average that we won't be back."
