We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and decided to give it a try. I ordered a decaf coffee, which was good, and my husband enjoyed his ice cream. We sat outside in the sunny weather and found the owners to be very friendly. We would definitely consider dining here again in the future. View all feedback.
Jason, the son of the team, is responsible for making all the oatcakes fresh daily and to order at the station. They are even sold wholesale to local shops. The oatcakes are described as some of the best the reviewer has ever eaten, and they have tried many over the years. The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly.
Had a breakfast here having loved the idea of food on a tin plate. I had melted cheese, bacon and tomatoes on a nice hot grilled tin plate with a couple of small but really good oatcakes. Coffee was free but not very good. The other half had a full english but they fell down here cold plate, rubber egg and very hard toast, he didn't enjoy. IMO they are nearly there, but need to scale down the breakfast offerings if this was limited to an oatcake breakfast served on hot tin plates and if they had good coffee in a mug and decent toast, it'd be 5 stars all the way. Just to reconfirm the oatcakes are really good. Also service good, the lady is nice and i get the feeling she'd sort out awkward customers without missing a beat. And the young guy making oatcakes and also serving, very personable indeed and pleasant. This is average rating based on coffee toast and not good full english but excellent in terms of a tin plate brekkie. Also fab surroundings and lovely dining area.
Once again food outstanding and the staff first class. Just love everything about the Station Kitchen. Will be back again soon. Fabulous
Just what we needed, a quick brunch with friendly service. We had the legendary tin plate breakfast highly recommended!
We love coming to this restaurant, and so does our 3-year-old son! The owners are courteous, friendly, and attentive, always ready to assist. They are fantastic with kids, which is a huge plus. The food and service are excellent, and they make delicious coffee and tea. I would personally love to see the cafe connected to the Churnet Valley Railway in the future, but for now, it remains a cozy spot at the train station.
