What lvd doesn't like about Dc Vegan:
I enjoyed my meal in the Botanical Bar, but I found it not very innovative. The portions were a good size. I was disappointed that meat replacements such as impossible were used in some of the dishes. Also, the mashed potatoes were an odd consistency. I really liked the cheese shop and dessert options upstairs. View all feedback.
Absolutely love DC Vegan. I've been here for an event, and I've had an offsite event catered from here, and both times the service really went above and beyond. When I was there, it was for a small event, and not only were the staff great about accommodating and being patient with my group, but when we asked them to reduce the volume of the music so we could have our event discussion, they immediately complied. For the catering event, I asked if I could do a Monday pickup (since it was a Monday event) and not only did they agree, in spite of being closed on Mondays, but i was literally the only catering order they even had that day, so they opened just for me, which is an unreal level of restaurant courteousness. The upstaids deli space is roomy and cheery, and the downstairs Botanical Bar is gorgeous and sexy. Ideal for a date, but also really nice and chill for pretty much any dining situation. For now the stars are mostly for ambiance and service. The food has been a little more hit or miss with me, but when it's a hit, it HITS. The vegan macaroni and cheese that I ordered for the catered event was unbelievably delicious. The beet burger sliders are good, would have been better if hot, but I appreciated the spicy kick. I was a little meh on the balsamic glazed tofu, but that was the most popular item at the catered event, so I'm clearly an outlier there. The lemon dill potato salad was less popular but I personally enjoyed how light and refreshing that was, with nice bright flavors. The chesapeake fritters I had during my group event, on the other hand, were a little TOO lemony. Good coleslaw though, and my partner enjoyed his meatball sub. Excited to make drinks at the Botanical Bar my next trip, and at some point, brunch!
This place is nice and quaint. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food wasn't bad. The mushroom omelette was a bit overpowering but had good flavor. The potato skins were tasty
This place is great! The food is delicious, the service is fast and friendly. AND THEY HAVE VEGAN WINES AND DESSERTS! Please excuse the shouting text, but I love this place. Makes me want to move onto P Street in Dupont Circle. Music is chill, seats are comfortable and I didn't mind the smudge stick out front. Gives DC Vegan a neo-hippie vibe. The Upstate Beans Greens was flavorful and the Chick'n Parm salad was crisp and filling. Five stars!
Brunchin today for the first time was a treat! Isaiah our server was so sweet and excellent! I had an amazing breakfast bowl and my husband had the sausage and cheese frittata. We shared the most delightful French toast too. Everything was delicious. This is a small quaint place so you definitely need to make reservations. You won't regret it. Might I say that my husband isn't vegan, but left his plate clean.
During our recent trip to the nation's capital, we had the pleasure of dining at DC Vegan, a charming vegan restaurant that left us thoroughly impressed. From the moment we stepped inside, we were warmly greeted at the counter. The staff member, upon learning it was our first visit, enthusiastically recommended some of their popular dishes. Our culinary adventure began with the King Trumpet Calamari —lightly fried mushroom rings served with cashew parmesan and marinara. As a mushroom lover, I found these to be an incredible starter, perfectly crispy and bursting with flavor. For our main courses, we tried two sandwiches. The Chick'n Cutlet Club was the standout favorite, featuring a crispy chick'n cutlet, veggie bacon, pesto aioli, romaine, and tomato. The combination was delightful, each bite offering a satisfying crunch. Our second choice, the Chick'n Parm , consisted of a crispy chick'n cutlet, almond ricotta, house marinara, arugula, and Parmesan. While it was good, it didn't quite measure up to the exceptional Chick'n Cutlet Club. Dessert was the highlight of our meal, with a vast selection to choose from. We opted for the Chocolate Oreo Cheesecake and the Carrot Cake , taking them to go since we were already full. Both desserts were delectable and provided generous portions that we happily shared later. Before leaving, we couldn't resist picking up some of DC Vegan's vegan cheeses. The Smokey Cheddar was particularly outstanding and quickly became a favorite. Summary: Service: 5 stars. Friendly and helpful staff made us feel welcome. Atmosphere: 4 stars. Great setting, though the steep stairs might be challenging for some. Food: 4 stars. Excellent flavors, especially the Chick'n Cutlet Club and King Trumpet Calamari. Dessert: 5 stars. Delicious and generously portioned. Value: 4 stars. Worth the visit for both the quality and variety offered. If you're passing through DC, DC Vegan is definitely a must visit spot for delicious vegan cuisine.
