"An amazing boardgame cafe/restaurant. Been there a couple of times (once on a double date and the second time with my boardgame savvy 4 yo). A lot of boardgames, nice selection. We enjoyed the chicken burger but the venison burger was quite dry. I can see us returning many times in the future."

"Edit: It seems Hiakai has shut their doors as their last season finished April 1 (as per website) and no new bookings have been released. Pretty good! Awesome tasty food and service, had the wine match and that was great too. The only thing that could be a little different for that price is maybe some more experimental items instead of just a cake as the dessert. I know from photos old-style Hiakai used to be experimental but seems to have lost it's touch recently."

"Closest thing to authentic Mexican food you will get in Welly (for now??? . The owners are from Ensenada, Mexico instead of the faraway lands of Whakatane or Timaru. Definitely leans towards food on the northern side border food, but the soups especially are very good and flavoursome.
