"The inside of the restaurant is well furnished and has a good atmosphere. This is a bit ruined by gimmicky signage and trinkets playing off the ludeness of its name. The food was good, and had a well balanced spicyness to it."

"Food was yummy! The serving size was rather large so I couldn't finish it. The service was great, didn't have to wait long to get food. It was very hot in the place when it is at full capacity"

"Closest thing to authentic Mexican food you will get in Welly (for now??? . The owners are from Ensenada, Mexico instead of the faraway lands of Whakatane or Timaru. Definitely leans towards food on the northern side border food, but the soups especially are very good and flavoursome. Also the dudes pop the cap off your jarritos with a lighter from their pocket, so it's true authentic."

"It's a great place to be so many to choose. Live ambience and they can choose to sit outside or inside on a table. caveat food selection is limited and they should not expect much."

"The atmosphere was friendly. The food was amazing. We both had entree arancini and brushetta which we shared. Then we had pasta Carbonara and Bolognise both were flavour packed. We then had desert which was a great finish to a wonderful meal. Great service as well!"

"The little two storey cottage at the top of aro St has seen some good and bad restaurants in its time. Jano is one of the better ones. It 's also been a springboard to greater things.<br/ <br/ To be honest I think Jano is Michelin quality, it 's seriously good but it 's wasted with a dumb name in a dumb place. Put Jano in whitebait 's interior, name it after Pierre Fenoux (the chef) and Wellington has a serious (at least one) Michelin star restaurant.<br/ <br/ But clearly Fenoux isn 't getting the coverage he deserves... Why is that?<br/ <br/ Of the people I speak to, few have heard of Jano is it the name? <br/ <br/ On the night I went last, Jano had a little blackboard outside with something like 'yes we are open ' is it the lack of foot traffic?<br/ <br/ But also, is it the food? The cuisine is full of the trending stuff like local, fresh, etc etc but it is also highly considered, highly crafted ... clever, complex, at times challenging, and for that reason it isn 't the sort of meal I 'd want too regularly. It 's not a bistro (Fenoux undersells himself), more a special occasion cuisine but in a poor space ... Yes I know it 's cute but it 's out of the way, it 's all upstairs, the stairs are treacherous, and the upstairs space is quite small and pretty dull. This guy is a rare talent deserving of something better.<br/ <br/ Last week we had the seven course degustation with wine match. I think it 's pointless dissecting the courses they are too complex but simply say that almost all worked brilliantly, some didn 't come off perfectly but who cares we 're talking about gastronomy not grub. The wines were very good accompaniments (matches are as rare as hens teeth).<br/ <br/ Service was excellent lovely people who were informed, or at least more than willing to find answers to our questions. My only suggestion is for the waiting staff not to go out for a fag between courses it is unbelievably obvious for the people around the table when you introduce the next course. <br/ <br/ Date night: definitely<br/ Birthday: yes<br/ Kids: no<br/ Foodies: definitely<br/ Big groups: no<br/ <br/ Overall I think this place is a gem."

"Winner of The 2019 Wellington On A Plate Innovative Dine Menu and Event Innovation Awards, Hillside Kitchen and Cellar is a gem. Max, the head chef, is a creative master in the kitchen and he and his staff always surprise with new and inventive offerings. Hillside has an a la carte lunch and dinner menu, but the<br/ 5 course and 7 course dinner degustation experiences are what make Hillside amazing. These luscious celebrations start with snacks, followed by fresh-from-the-oven crusty homemade sourdough white and kumara breads served with a side of boutique salt peppered olive oil. The courses then commence and it's always a joy to anticipate what comes next. There are 4 savoury mains followed by a palate cleanser and dessert. The 7 course has an additional in-house-crafted nut cheese plate and a second dessert. Both degustations finish with lovely petit fours.<br/ <br/ Because Hillside is an Eco-conscious, Vegetarian Vegan only restaurant that takes pride in growing its own fruits veggies, foraging for local plants fungi and partnering with trusted artisan suppliers, every dish is fresh, healthy, elegant and sensual.<br/ <br/ There's an alcohol and non-alcohol drink pairing option for each of the degustation experiences as well as a brilliiant natural (local international) by-the-glass or bottle wine selection. There are cocktails, teas, coffees, juices, kombuchas, keffirs, liquers, beers and sparkling water. Be prepared for three hours to fly by if you choose the degustation experiences. Hillside Kitchen is also an art gallery featuring local artists whose creations are available for purchase. Tucked away in a beautiful little corner of Wellington, Hillside Kitchen is a cacoon of comfort and a real treat."

"Really nice pub, excellent customer service. They do these awesome little cheese ball things and these other little things (I cant remember the name of) which also contain cheese.<br/ <br/ Nice outdoor area as well. Has a safe, homely feel about it."
