After a weekend in Hastings on rice lake we were promised a fabulous meal at our friends local restaurant and we were not disappointed. They took us to the portly piper and we loved it, great food and drink in a family friendly atmosphere. Would recommend to everyone but don't take my advice just visit and I promise you will return. Worried about catching COVID then avoid The Portly Piper. We of us) sat at a table overlooking the entrance and watched dozens of people pour into the place with no contact name taken nor was their ID checked. It was a hit and...miss effort! You absolutely must visit this restaurant for the fantastic atmosphere. Be sure to sample everything on the menu - the wings are especially excellent, and the service is top-notch.

The restaurant was much better when it first opened, but over the past year or so, the food quality has declined and the prices have increased. Due to these changes, we have stopped going.

I visited the Ajax location on Aug 7 with some family members. We were greeted by a really friendly server who let us seat ourselves. Once seated the another server had the regular menus and a kids menu with crayons waiting for us. We started with some apps - Tortilla flutes and bruschetta with feta. They were fantastic and had great presentation when served. the other orders were wings, shrimp pad thai, salmon and mac and cheese for the little one. All of which were excellent. In my opinion...the best bar food in Durham.
