Restaurante Rocha da Palha

Fantastic location, with a table overlooking the beach at sunset. Excellent choice of menu. We had monkfish with rice prawns clams, which was delicious. Will be visiting again.

Booked in advance for the 10 people to be sure they could accommodate us. We were made very welcome by a lovely waiter who promptly took our order of mainly fish dishes. Despite an accident which occurred while the cooked fish was being filleted, this was quickly rectified with an apology and in the end, every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our food. I’ve visited this restaurant many times since 2016 and will always return on any future visits to the area. Excellent value for money.

As soon we walked in the waiter looked at us like he didn’t want us there and the place was empty apart from one other family, he was upset that we didn’t manage to get bit of sand of our foot wear, we ordered some bread and olives while looking at menu and he wouldn’t stop making a point with his brushing around are feet, he looked aggressive and angry so we walked out before the bread had even come! As we were leaving the waiter was waving and shouting f**k off in front of my 14,12 year old children! as that happened the other family upped and left as there food was been cooked.

We walked in off the beach. Yes unfortunately the there was a little sand on our shoes that dragged in. Always to be expected. A very unwelcoming waiter then proceeded to sweep up huffing and puffing which made us feel awkward. We then asked for a table of 4, the restaurant was empty... I wonder why. He eventually sat us down and proceeded to sweep up again in an angry manner. It made us feel so out of place. Working in hospitality back in the UK as a chef, I know you do not make your customers feel awkward and unwelcome. We got up and left. I didn't want to order or pay for anything at this point, I refuse to put money in the tills of people who treat their customers this way. The staff started shouting fk off as we left baring in mind we kids with us. I am glad I didn't waste my money here. HORRIBLE!

I have been coming here for many years, because of the good cuisine, very friendly staff and the great location. My visit will most likely have been my last one, since I hardly received a drink at the bar while waiting for the kitchen to open. When it finally opened, the waiter told other people to come in, but me. Then he asked me to pay for the drink before I ordered the meal! Never in all my travels around the world had I experienced this. I received the starters which were not as good as they used to be and the fish which was also disappointing. Before, this was the best preparation I ever had of that dish. The mojito is still very good! But this will not be enough for me to come all the way by taxi to Amarcao de Pêra. After Covid19, I thought, the gastronomy should be happy about every customer and treat them well. Maybe worth a discussion within the management?
