Unfortunately, the food and decor now seem to be on the same level - basic, outdated, and unremarkable, with a limited selection of snacks and breakfast options. The unexpected presence of numerous flies buzzing around on a chilly day was the last straw. I was very disappointed and this will be my final visit to Fireworks Cafe after more than a decade of previously pleasant experiences.
Food is not as good since it changed hands, in fact they use the old menu and have crossed things off. The burgers are on the small and disappointing side. No longer open for dinner
Amazing coffee and friendly prompt service. This crew proved themselves previously at Coledale and are now bringing their non-pretentious, community focussed caffeine and food to Austinmer.
I've been here three times now. The first time I had coffee and cake and was served by a lovely young lady who advised me to order a double shot when I asked about how strong the coffee is (I like mine strong) and it was perfect. The cake was a pistachio citrus cake and was absolutely superb. The fellow making coffee who I chatted to when I paid said they make them fresh each morning and you could tell! So I was excited that this could be my new local... the rest of the menu was quite interesting with lots of vegetarian options. Unfortunately it went downhill from there.. . My next visit for breakfast I ordered sourdough toast with avocado, roast tomatoes and sumac, and was met with a look by the waiter that indicated it was unavailable. She went and checked in the kitchen and came back to tell me they hadn't roasted any tomatoes yet (it was around 11 am), but I could have it with fresh tomato or with blended up sundries tomatoes (?), so I opted for the fresh tomato. When it came out it was literally a piece of bread smeared with avocado with 3 slices of pale red tomato on top... no garnish, no drizzle of olive oil, no sumac... she put it in front of me and said that's what you wanted isn't it? I hesitated and said it's ok. I find it disconcerting that she was rushing around although there were hardly any customers there, and felt like I was putting her out by eating there. I decided to give it one more try with a friend for lunch and won't go into detail except that we were both disappointed both with our meals and with the service. I don't think I'll be going back.
