The restaurant was extremely busy- fully booked. We started the meal outside but after sudden rain we were found somewhere to sit inside. The menu looked good with figs stuffed with pistachios etc . There was a lot of salad leaves on the plate quite well dressed but the food didn't live up to its description on the menu. Perhaps we chose an evening when the staff were overstretched. We had twice dinner. Food and service were very good. Great location and it works very late. You can come at 21:00 and have great dinner. We loved it.
My favorite place and restaurant in Avignon. Everything is delicious and not expensive. Moreover, it's hidden from the touristic itineraries, and the atmosphere is so perfect... The indie cinema Utopia emphasizes the local and intellectual ambiance. Any visit is good: friends, family, romantic dinner, whatever! Love this place...
I rarely give five points but this one deserves it. We arrived about 9:00pm on a September evening and there was plenty of space and attentive staff. I liked the atmosphere created by the huge battered mirrors on the walls and bare brickwork. I had a refreshing gazpacho to start and my partner a kind of potted aubergine with panisse (little crunchy chickpea fritters). I had a great bavette steak cooked "saignant" (rare) as requested, with gorgonzola sauce and marrow-flavoured polenta. My partner had a pissaladière. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
The setting is in a quiet courtyard behind the Pope's Palace next to the excellent Utopia cinema which has 4 screens and quite a few film in English. The food is organic or locally sourced, and has a fresh feel to it. It is imaginatively cooked and not expensive. We had a lovely chicken fillet coated in chopped roasted almonds. You can sit inside or outside depending on weather. We will return for sure, and next time for a film as well.
Incredibly delicious food for very reasonable prices. It is immediately clear that the attentive, helpful and enthusiastic staff are totally devoted to bringing the best locally sourced ingredients together in a dish that can only delight the patrons. Even the beer is handcrafted by a small brewer and is really good! The setting outside is beautiful, serene and peaceful. This is al fresco eating at its very best. We stumbled onto this place almost by accident and will definitely go back!
