Diners rave about the extensive bourbon selection and the intriguing stories tied to the building, including its ghostly legends. However, the food quality has been inconsistent, with a range of dining experiences from terrible meals to delightful dishes, such as burgoo and catfish. Service varies from attentive to slow, but many agree that the warm hospitality often compensates for culinary shortcomings. This establishment is celebrated not just for its food but as an immersive historical experience in the Bourbon Capital of the U.S.
From a short trip to louisville on the way to home. that was delicious. we had cheese biscuits and cheeses for apps. both were good. tocuits are small. for dinner we had fried chicken, hot brown and bourbon mango black. the black was the star of all our meal times. the fried chicken was vey good. hot brown was ok. had better, but also worse. we had dessert the Tavern Pie. it was good. a very nice experience with good eating.
We stayed overnight here. The Tavern has history going back to the days of Jesse James and is very interesting. Possibly haunted. Furnishings are from that period including your room, bed and bathroom, all in keeping. Great history but if you want a modern hotel this isnt it. Great location in the centre of Bardstown. We had breakfast in the Tavern, it was average, no menu just one dish. We didnt eat dinner so cannot comment. It is a great historical place.
Can't get enough good things about this place or the service/food we get! Wonderful historical environment. Our server overheard me saying my family that we would order 2 baskets of bread. Before we even took our drinks orders, our bread was delivered! Perfect as everyone starved: the food was delicious (we tried something of everything and the portions were plentiful. A special cry to Kennedy (and Mama for the excellent service. What a perfect place to fill and warm up on a cold day of the tour.
Was recommended and it didn’t disappoint! Pork nachos, wedge salad and Kentucky Burgoo. Excellent food!! If you are close you must make it a stop.
Great food and spirits in a classic Inn!!! We started with fine premium Kentucky bourbon, had some great steak, cheese corn, and seafood... the finish more fine Bourbon
