when they visit the radio tower and see the 360 degree panorama at the second stop of the elevator, they can stop on the way back in the first stage in the restaurant. we had coffee that was good and cheap. we have looked through the lunch and dinner menus that we will consider as our next opportunity. This is a nice place for a dinner in Berlin. The views are amazing and one can enjoy German kitchen. I am not a very big friend of Knödels and German way of preparing meat in oven, so I give only three stars. But if...you enjoy traditional German kitchen, this is a good place. The service was not very quick, but the people were friendly. This can be a very romantic place, too.
This restaurant is located about halfway up the Berlin radio tower and we were looking forward to a dinner overlooking the city. The view is indeed impressive, but then there's the food. The buffet dinner was literally inedible. Nothing was good. We all left our...food on the plates. Service was mediocre at best. Waiters looked tired, the lady serving the meat was downright rude. At one point we actually cleared our own plates, which were piling up on the table. We came in around 9 pm and the buffet was half empty. Nobody bothered to refill it, which is actually a blessing, considering the quality of the food. We left as soon as possible and went to look for something to eat.
I have never been to the Funkturm previous to today. The restaurant view is half way to the top. The food is a buffet and the theme for January was Australia. 38 euros pp. Our reservations were for 6PM and we were let in the...elevator about 15 minutes before. Parking was free. We chose the 6PM evening seating. The view was OK but not great. The viewing platform on top was closed. A bottle of wine starts at around 22 euros. We ordered a 25 euro Italian merlot and it was very good. They seated us at a table for 4 with 2 seats. We noticed some other couples were at a table for 2 and it looked a little tight. The appetizers were all good as were the sauces they served as a compliment for each dish. They were spicier than I am used to in Berlin the Germans usually have dishes that are a little more bland. They also had a small cheese station with bread, fruits and nuts and spicy marmalade. The soup was a coconut base with noodles and was very spicy more toward an Indian restaurant. The main dishes were lamb curry, lamb filet mignon, chicken, fish etc. All were very good and a little spicy. There were coffee choices as well as a few dessert choices. The mousse was very good. It was fun but quick. It reminded me of being in the US. Drinks in under 3 minutes, food is ready quickly and you are out the door in a little over an hour. Our waitress took empty plates away quickly and poured wine when I was half empty.
Visiting the Radio Tower to retrace my father 's footsteps from 1945 we ventured through the rather bleak back area of the Exhibition Centre to the foot of the tower no one around other than the lady selling tickets at the foot of the tower. Then...we arrived at the restaurant level (after going to the top viewing platform and what a surprise! A wonderful restaurant with excellent staff and amazing surroundings with really good food 'right up our street '. Good wine by the glass choice (it was lunch time! and excellent dishes which were well presented and a welcome change from the local Berlin speciality 'currywurst ' which I 'd had for the last two evenings on the 'when in Rome ' principle! Don 't miss it!
The Funkturm Restaurant is definitely better than the restaurant at the tv tower is the east of the city. The view is nice and if the weather is acceptable you can go up to the upper platform in the tower. The restaurant offers a buffet...with different themes each month during the year. The quality is not exceptional. Fair dishes, some quite good others quite poor. The price for the buffet about 25 EUR is acceptable.
