The quality of food at brunch was inconsistent, with some dishes falling short. Service was lacking, with mishaps like incorrectly cooked steaks and delayed orders. Although the restaurant shows potential with an excellent wine list, the staff seemed unprepared and undertrained. On the upside, made-to-order omelets and friendly service from staff like Marco provided some highlights. Overall, Meritage has some work to do to meet its aspirations of being a top local restaurant.
The omelets were cooked to perfection, made to order. We had a great server, Marco, who was very attentive and we also enjoyed the mimosas. The shrimp dish was fantastic, but the New York steak could have been cooked a bit better as it was a bit dry. Overall, we preferred the prime rib and found the staff to be very friendly.
We usually go to the Westin for our rare date nights but we enjoyed the package at Omni this round so we will surely return.
The service was terrible all around. We weren’t the only table. People were complaining all around us. Our food came out at the wrong time (appetizers after entrees and this was happening at other tables. My wife had to send her steak back as she ordered it medium well and it was clearly medium rare. It came back to her from the kitchen pretty much unchanged. Nobody cleared our plates until we were absolutely out of room at the table and we still had to ask. I was offered someone else’s food twice. The waiter kept telling everyone that the kitchen had to serve both restaurants at the hotel and the food runners were bringing food out as soon as it was done. This is patently ridiculous and didn’t change the fact that everyone at the restaurant was unprepared and undertrained. It was Valentines Day and our waiter told us it was his food runner’s first day on the job (this explains why he served the bread for our table by placing it right in front of me instead of the middle of the table but why hadn’t he been trained to take dirty dishes away? This restaurant has a lot of potential as it offers an excellent wine list with even premium wines by the glass. The food was OK but wasn’t overpriced so even that wasn’t bad. They just don’t seem to have their act together and need to be trained from the back of the house to the front of the house in order to become what they seem to want to be. Too many mistakes to warrant another try.
The hotel appeared to a limited amount of guests on this morning. The buffet was not offered as an option.
We had rare filet and it was so tender we didn't need a knife to cut out steak. Delicious!
