Dundee's - Cairns

The restaurant offers a special menu with vegan and gluten-free options. However, when we inquired about it, the waiter who served us (also the manager) said there was no such menu. I do not recommend this place as they are not vegan-friendly and the food is tasteless.

We dined during the twilight aquarientour, a two-hour guided tour through the aquarium that included food and drinks. The Cairns Aquarium is known for conserving species that are threatened, and the staff were very accommodating when we requested a vegan dinner. They even suggested the vegan options without us asking. The vegan menu was a bit pricey but satisfying. For dinner, we had penne pasta and chickpea saffron curry. The curry had a rich flavor but was a bit thin for my preference. The portion of penne pasta was small, but my wife enjoyed it. The meals were good but on the expensive side. However, the desserts were fantastic. The vegan chocolate and peanut butter cake was surprisingly moist and delicious, without the usual texture of vegan chocolates. The bananenlatte was also delicious. Overall, a delightful dining experience next to the aquarium tank. It's disappointing that a conservation-focused aquarium serves fish, but the vegan menu is a positive step.

The vegan menu at this restaurant seems to have changed from what was previously described in reviews. I found the options on the savory menu to be easily replicable at home for a much lower cost. A suggestion for the restaurant owners: the menu should not disappoint with its lack of imagination. However, they did have some good vegan dessert options. I ended up only ordering chips and a chocolate mud cake while my companions had seafood. After leaving Dundee's, I questioned why I bothered with these mediocre meat-serving restaurants and wished I had just stayed home and saved my money.
