We went to La Casa del Faro especially for rib night. It was good that we arrived early with our group because it got busy really quick and was soon filled to capacity. Ron was cooking up a storm with ribs as we arrived and welcomed us as we passed by on our way to our table. Service was a bit slow because of the number of patrons, but the staff did well to keep up and met our needs. Enjoyable evening, great setting b... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about La Casa del Faro:
Je fréquentais ce restaurant régulièrement il y a deux ans. malheureusement, l'an passée, nous avons constaté une diminution de la qualité et de la quantité. Plusieurs de nos amis qui aussi fréquentaient ce restaurant, ne le fréquentent plus. La propreté fait aussi défaut. C'est dommage car le restaurant est en bord de mer et la vue est très agréable, View all feedback.
The internet photo is 40 years old and must have gone a revolution of the way. We went for Bar B Q ribs all you eat or not. Ordering everything they said would last forever. You do not take your order in any order, 3 tables that arrived after us all were served food / drinks well before us. This place is located next to the pier in Chicxulub and is dirty and evil. The tables were wiped off when they were new. The servers were busy and have spoken enough English to be good. The streets are very dirty, no blacktop, it's in the slums. It is disgusting to see the place and where it is located. The owner was English and cooks on a grill at the entrance, he is very welcoming and friendly. The clientele was Canadian, British, Yanks, but not Mexicans, that should have told us to go, but we stayed. The ribs were fair, but cooked to fall from the bones, vegetables didn't get me sick 3 days later, so that was good. Don't wait for you to choose this place. Drive extra 5km and go to Progreso.

Ron cooked a storm with ribs when we arrived and greeted us when we came to our table. The service was somewhat slow due to the number of cartridges, but the staff did well to meet our needs. Nice evening, great location on the pier and good food. What else could you ask?
We were often in Casa del Faro. The food was consistently very good, from Coco Camarones to Fish to Chicken. We missed the Tuesday night BBQ ribs, but have heard they are also excellent! The owner Ron, is very friendly and very involved in the well-being of this small fishing village. The employees are in their limited English, or is it my limited Spanish?, with their kindness and excellent service. There is an outdoor swimming pool and it is next to the Chicxulub pier that adds to its ambience. Sunsets are beautiful from this outdoor area. No need to travel to Progreso or Merida for a good meal! Very recommended!
I've been eating coconut shrimp in Mexico for over 20 years from Puerto Vallarta to Cancun and many points in between. The batter was so light and crispy with obvious just grated coconut shreds. The shrimp had that fresh, slightly briny flavour I love and the accompanying sauces were light and delicious. I was going back tonight for more shrimp, HOWEVER, after reading these reviews I might try the ribs! They have a great friendly young man waiting the tables and a little pool for a quick rinse after your ocean swim. Little gem of a place right on the beach to the right of the pier in Chicxulub 10 minute drive from Progreso.
