Contribute FeedbackOak Royal has garnered mixed reviews recently, painting a picture of inconsistency and customer dissatisfaction. Couples planning weddings faced significant challenges, including a lack of communication from management during critical times. Meanwhile, dining experiences highlighted both disappointments and delights. Afternoon tea reportedly fell short, with slow service and unsatisfactory food quality, while the new management made strides with a successful Sunday brunch, impressing patrons with quality dishes and generous portions. As the venue navigates its transition, potential visitors should proceed with caution, weighing past experiences against recent improvements.
Went for afternoon tea, location and setting was beautiful however afternoon tea was terrible. Probably the worst afternoon tea I have ever had! Sandwiches were like a kids tea party with basis fillings like tuna, ham and egg. Cakes were dry and no offers of...refills on coffee or tea. Don’t waste your money
.Worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had and I’ve been to many different places please don’t waste your money we arrived at 2.45pm for a 3pm sitting only 1 other couple in the restaurant so we were seated immediately. I asked for a pot of tea...with mine and had to ask again twice where it was. It eventually arrived 40 minutes later and when being placed on the table was poured accidentally no apology not even wiped up I had to mop it up myself with napkins. The food was abysmal my grandchild could make better. 3 slices of bread between 2 adults no soup as is standard at any other place I’ve been to. A stale piece of sponge with jam on top, a slither of flapjack and a very small piece of ginger cake plus a tiny scone. This was a birthday gift but the recipient couldn’t make it which I’m very grateful for as I’d have been embarrassed. But for my daughter asking me not to make a fuss I wound have complained and left. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to it. Would not go again,
So we had been given this a birthday treat from a friend...I think he hates us. A shame really for a 1 1/2 hour round trip to sample afternoon tea at what seemed and was an attractive location. A little sad looking under the bridge...as you go into a lovely room but the atmosphere resembled one achieved at a mortuary. A shame for the poor lady that served us and tried her best as the coffee was the highlight of the experience. All diners were using vouchers as our afternoon tea arrived and it felt that it had been sat in the fridge for a few days. Cheese, Tuna and ham sandwich first that were below average and a vegetable spring roll that seemed to have cone from a frozen cheap supermarket with some token leaves for salad. The scone was more like a tea cake and flavourless and the cakes were mass produced and were flavourless. You look for an experience that is better that you can do at home and I think, unfortunately, that my 8 year old could do a better job from scratch. I feel I would want to ask for my petrol fee back but both servers weren’t there for at least 5-10 minutes for our feedback, probably ashamed to. So we skulked off and pretended it never happened
Not been for a while as the last time we went we were very disappointed with the choices of food on the set menu. So glad we gave it another chance as the choices were much more to our tastes. Mushrooms and garlic dip x...2 very nice, 2 x fish, chips and mushy peas equally as good and to finish 2 x sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, only complaint not enough ice cream. All the portions were generous and the service very good. Will be back again soon.
The restaurant is under new management. My wife and I went for Sunday brunch and the meal was absolutely fantastic. We started with a beautiful appetizer and then enjoyed a delicious, tender roast beef. Highly recommended.
