Despite some noise and cleanliness issues, the fantastic food and great service continue to make it a favorite spot. The bar seating provides a cozy neighborhood atmosphere, with bartenders Krystal and Helen providing excellent hospitality. Dishes like the grouper sandwich and Butter Blackened NY Strip are highlights, all served hot and prepared to perfection. Overall, Backwaters on Sand Key remains a popular choice for those seeking a waterfront dining experience with great food and service.
Spent time traveling between Chcago and Florida. Backwaters was always the place that I could count on for great food.
Excellent in all categories! We enjoyed our delicious meal outside on the deck by the Intercoastal Waterway. An added bonus was that we saw dolphins!
My partner and I dined at the bar for dinner. Krystal and Helen, who served as both our bartenders and servers, provided excellent hospitality. We felt like we were in a cozy neighborhood spot. The food was fantastic - we both ordered the grouper sandwiches, which were delicious. The smoked fish spread was also excellent.
Heard great things about this restaurant. It was too chilly to sit outside as we had hoped so we sat inside which quickly changed atmosphere. Our server was excellent. I had a sad with scallops and shrimp and it was large and delicious. Prices were reasonable. Will go back and I recommend!
We have eaten at Backwaters many times; usually in the daytime. AGAIN at night dining, besides the noise level way out of hand; we see the manager carrying a dining table over his head, over like 10 seated customers, and the table up-side-down with the legs hitting the ceiling fan blades that were turning. The island that the wait staff puts dirty dishes in has bins and everytime they put dirty dishes in the bins; there was like an avalanche of noise. On top of that one of the bins tipped over and there was left-over food and liquid from the drinks all over the floor. Bottom line is this island for dirty dishes should be removed and dirty dishes carried immediately to the kitchen sink. Not stored in the dining area about five feet from where customers were eating.
