We've visited this town often but only tried this restaurant for lunch last time. It was a great choice. Good good, good wine, excellent desert and a lovely atmosphere.
Domfront is an unexpectedly interesting Roman town with a most unusual-looking church which is stunning inside. To add to our delight in finding this lovely town today, we came across the Auberge du Grand Gousier. The several tables of jolly French diners drew us in. Usually a good sign if the locals eat there. We were made very welcome, chose the menu du jour and were treated to standards of food and service which we'd have happily paid double for. Good sized portions, a delicious lunch in clean and comfortable surroundings and all for 15 Euro. We plan to visit the Auberge for lunch each time we pass Domfront from now on.
Remember that French cuisine uses parts of animals that the English are not accustomed to. Always well cooked but can be surprising. Caters for special diets well.
We had dinner here and felt the value was not as good as what is available generally at lunchtime. The starters weren't bad and there was an amazing sweet trolley but the mains let the meal down especially as two of our party had the veal cheeks which were nearly all fat. The waitress was very friendly but ran off her feet serving the whole restaurant on her own. Having read previous reviews we were disappointed.
