We must have been lucky since our recent experience was much better than most of the reviews I have read. I thought the space was comfortable and welcoming with lots of space between tables....yes the TV's are there but at least they were glowing fireplaces and not sports (Christmas was just around the corner)....very nice wine selection by the glass, fatouche salad very good and the chicken kebob was perfectly cooke... What Ollie Braun doesn't like about Parkallen Restaurant:
This was the worst restaurant I have been too in a really long time. There was 14 of us (I know this is a big number but we made reservations 1 month ahead of time and it was not a surprise to them that we were coming). The waitress was the worst waitress I have ever seen. Almost seemed annoyed with us. It took almost 1 hr for our food to come out and some of us actually never even ended up receiving our orders. Served by a new waitress that was assisted by the manager and great service all around. Food was excellent, ambiance very pleasant, pricing not too bad, quantity very satisfying, and once again stress the friendly service, especially by the manager. We were even treated to a free desert and what a desert it was. Wine selection out of this world - ask for the wine list - some prices and selections will capsize your boat.
This restaurant has been in business for more than 30 years so obviously they're doing enough good stuff to stay in business. The restaurant is nicely decorated and there's a small patio in the front with screens that make you forget that you're on a busy street. My friend is the one who suggested this place as she'd been there recently. She ordered the Lunch combo and it looked good and she pronounced it delicious. I chose the Falafel and I have to say I was disappointed because it was dry. There wasn't enough sauce in the dish to make it go down easy. The table next to us had pizza. It looked very good. I should have had the pizza.
My wife and I went for dinner at the Parkallen restaurant last night. Wonderful service and friendly atmosphere. It is easy to see why we are regular customers, the food as usual was great. WE order the surf and turf chef's special, really nicely done !
My husband and I (and the kids when they were small) used to stop here for pizza or (better yet) Lebanese food. We hadn't been for years, but recently moved back to the south side from downtown. On a whim we went to the Parkallen for a late, light dinner for two. We were delighted. The restaurant has been significantly remodeled/renovated since we were last there and is very open and attractive. The menu is quite extensive, include starters, meats, fish, and pizza. Our favorite, however, remains the Lebanese fare. Our server was lovely. And the food was better than ever. We had Tzatziki and pita, fatouche, and kofta. The Tzatziki was nice and tangy, and the fatouche (which was more than enough for the two of us) is still the best in town. The kofta were nicely spiced and served with roasted vegetables (onions and peppers). The whole meal, including a beer for my husband $(8) was $36. The one complaint my husband (and son, if he were to go with us) had was that their beer menu is sadly limited. But all in all a lovely late dinner for two.
We came here for the first time last week and returned today because we liked the pizza that we ordered. Our experience today (our second visit) was not the best. The waitress took too long bringing our orders out and she got the orders wrong. She apologized for this but blamed the kitchen - a huge NO-NO in my book. You never blame someone else for your mistakes. I'm giving this place good marks because of the good service we got the first time we were here. We'll definitely be going back, but we expect better service next time around.
