Located in the rural countryside behind a small farm, this popular restaurant is known for its almost entirely vegan menu. The chefs prepare the food in front of guests, creating a transparent and open kitchen experience. Although they only offer a daily menu, the dishes are delicious and expertly prepared. Additionally, the restaurant features a beautiful garden for outdoor dining during the summer months. View all feedback.
What Jane Thoo doesn't like about De Groene Waaier:
I was really hoping to enjoy this restaurant as it was our last meal in Belgium. The place was nice, but unfortunately that is where the positives end. The food lacked flavor, was overly sweet and overcooked, and the portions were tiny. It was also quite expensive, with even the water seeming overpriced at three dollars for two small glasses. Every month, the green fantasy themes, a country is central, and a menu is veganized dishes based on dishes from the country in question. We've been five times and we've always enjoyed the beginning. Very kind scouts. (chuckles) No theme nights are organized for the Covid-19 pandemics.
The service was slow and the meal itself was nothing special. We didn't have time to dispute the bill as we had a train to catch. Overall, we spent $50 on a disappointing lunch. This restaurant does not meet the standards for happy cow's two-star minimum for vegetarian places.
'de groene waaier' is located a bit off the beaten path on a quiet street. It's only a 5-minute walk from the train station. In my opinion, the highlight of the food here is the use of spices. The flavors are subtle and often surprise you in unexpected ways. They typically serve a mix of savory dishes with sweet accompaniments, and there are always unique flavors to be found on their menu. If the weather is nice, diners can enjoy their meal in the beautiful garden. The desserts are especially delicious! The prices are very reasonable. On the downside, the portions are a bit small (though you can always ask for more) and the tables can be a bit wobbly, though this varies from day to day. The chef, who works in an open kitchen, is always very friendly. Overall, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit!
