What User doesn't like about Double Happiness Restaurant:
Tried the Double Happiness to see if I would be truly as described. I wasn't surprised to see that the majority of the entree starters are straight out of the packet, and just the mains were freshly prepared. The mains were ok but nothing special, ok if your in a hurry, or maybe if yo organise a function. A little bit too ordinary. View all feedback.

We have been coming to Double Happiness for over 25 years originally with our four young children and now with their children as well. The decor has changed a few times over the years but the range and quality of Chinese, Malaysian and Indonesian dishes remains of a very high standard.Dad, Andy, and his wife man the kitchen and their three now grown up children take it in turns to provide great customer service.Take away is available and there is ample street parking.
This place is more properly called a takeaway /cafe. It only seats about 30,max. We went there as a reunion/get together of mates for 40 or so years. This meant that the food wasn't the priority. So the organisers just got each of us to pay $35 and out came the food. We had a great selection of satays , roti, Rendang, and other Chinese/Malaysian dishes, looking at the menu they have the same dishes as similar places. It's next to the rail station and obviously popular with locals who order and pick up as they get of the train. We all had a really good meal.
What great food. Don't be deceived by the very simple, minimalist décor. This is a proper hole in the wall place to get fantastic good eats. It is not fancy to look at, but the food comes in and is great. It is small, homey and delicious. If you are not into paying tons of money for "ambiance" and getting ordinary food, then this is the place to go. Traditional Chinese and Malaysian food. It's cooked fresh, not a stitch of it sitting in a bain marie, and the portions are generous. Not a lot of people there, but then again, who goes down Patterson Street on purpose unless you live there. The staff was so friendly, too. They have been there for years, the current owners took over about 25 years ago. It is just yummy!
I love this little restaurant. I tend to order the same few dishes, mixing it up on the odd occasion. I fell in love with my first time having the "birds nest" basket "seafood combination" Vegeterian fried rice, Bok Choy, are on my favourite list. I always ask the friendly owners for extra broccoli, at a small cost it's worth it!
