Smitty's use to be a 'go to' for a good meal. Not so now. The last couple of visits have not been satisfactory. Service was ok but food was below par and prices have increased which does not reflect the quality of food. Should be a decrease in price. It will be a long time before I return. View all feedback.

I ate at Smitty's twice while vacationing in Halifax. The first time it was great, second time not so much. The difference in experience and quality directly related to what I ordered and the server. First visit: I ordered yoghurt with fruit and granola, and toast. It was delicious and fresh. Also the server was great -- she was attentive and friendly.Second visit: I ordered a savoury crepe. I asked for it to be modified as I'm vegetarian (no egg, no meat). It was "passable" (it tasted ok but really looked awful). The server was quite average - nice enough, but he seemed a bit absent-minded.During both visits I found the restaurant to be extremely cold...brrr. I got the impression that they don't want you to stay too long! Coffee: not very good. Skip it and head to Starbucks located a very short walk away.
We have been going to Smitty's for almost 30 years and this saddens me to write this review. Change is good, not in this case! I'm not sure when it happened or why however the quality of food has changed drastically. We have a three strike (visits) you are out policy, as we all have off days as we are humans. Then there is the customer service, no one seems to care!On our last visit, we arrived and were seated promptly as it wasn't busy, we got coffee in dirty cups! Not a great start, then the waitress disappeared for quite some time. Cold coffee left in the dirty cup by this point I didn't want it replaced. Waitress reappears not overly concerned or apologetic for the wait or the dirty cup, takes our order, now we wait and wait and wait! Keep in mind it's a Tuesday morning say 10 am maybe 5 tables occupied. It takes 25 minutes to get our regular breakfast which consisted of eggs, hash browns toast and I had pancakes. Food arrived cold! Eggs over cooked and cold, pancakes resemble toaster style. They are so over cooked there is a thick layer on both sides that you can peel off. Oh and I have no utensils to eat my cold food with! Asked for some but I had to get up go to the front cash and ask for them! So frustrating and so disappointed!!Our bill for two was $37.00 for cold, over cooked breakfast. I went to the front paid my bill and then explained our experience, the girl at the cash simply replies oh yeah I'd say they were over cooked, it happens! Does no one care anymore? Three strikes you're out:(
Over the years we have noticed Smitty's prices going up and their quality going down and this past Saturday was the last straw. We arrived around 12:20pm, we were a table of four, it was busy but not full-out at all. Our waitress was fine, she was pleasant and none of this reflects her. We ordered and then waited 35 minutes for a salad, french toast, a rib dip sandwich and quesadilla with sweet potato fries. The SP fries didn't come with the meal, those had to be waited for an extra 5 minutes. My salad was acceptable but not huge, very full of dressing and my husband who got french toast got literally 2 pieces of bacon, what amounted to 1.5 eggs and 1 piece of toast cut in half for his french toast. Our bill came to $32.50. It was quite literally ridiculous for the amount of food and the time we waited. There was neither the quality or quantity and with many other food establishments to choose from, we won't be back!
The food isn't special and prices have been hiked up in recent years. Service is ok and it's not bad to visit if you're looking for familiar food/breakfast. It's over priced though for what you're getting.
