Great little place, surprised to see so few people there when we went at 630 on a Friday night. The only drawback was that we were sitting near the bar, which is where all the staff congregated to sit and talk, which is all well and fine when it's dead. Just maybe not somewhere out in the open right next to guests. However they did keep the conversation appropriate for the most part and were not overly loud. All in a... View all feedback.
What John doesn't like about Sofia Ristorante:
Sofia Restaurant scratched my it for Italian food. the cheese in the Buratta-Prosciutto appetizer was light as a feather. I had veal parmesan, a healthy portion, but could have used a little more sauce to keep the veal moist. The 'clam on pasta with oil ' special looked and smelled wonderful and the salmon special was a ample portion. Pretty good wine list as well, heavy on the Italian wines (as it should be) and wit... It was our second choice that night. We wanted to try a new restaurant in Hudson, but were blasted out by the noise level. Though our second choice, Sofia's is an old favorite, and we and our friends had a delightful meal and evening. Service always a plus with personable staff; delicious food, including some surprises with an appetizer we had not tried before (the buratta special) and a limoncello based dessert.
Being Italian, I would describe the restaurant as the classic American “Italian” restaurant, not authentic (aside from the spelling of the restaurant name , not even average compared to other Italo-American restaurants. I would describe the decor as early 90’, carpet, dated furniture. The menu was uninspiring..yet... when I go to a new restaurant I usually ask the waiting staff for the most popular or best dish on the menu as reference for what else I could taste the next time I come. I was suggested either chicken or steak (not quite Italian staples.. but sure.. , so I went for the steak. Ordered it rare, arrived medium. The cut and quality of the steak were below supermarket sale. I would not recommend... but there appeared to be few repeat customers.. so perhaps is just a matter of taste..
Sofia is a charming Trattoria on Main Street in Hudson with well executed Pastas and Italian fare. The service is good; and the food is really good. We started with Arracini and a nice salad. Pastas were homemade and tasty. We would definitely return.
