Contribute FeedbackUltramar, a new restaurant in a scenic location by the sea, has received mixed reviews from diners. While some were disappointed by issues such as uneven pacing of dishes and problematic wine service, others praised the delicious food and welcoming atmosphere. Despite some inconsistencies in service and food quality, Ultramar seems to have potential to improve and become a top dining destination for visitors and locals alike.
Too many negatives . Food was horrible . Waiters delivered 1 side and 2 main courses . 15 minutes later received 2 more entrees . 15 minutes later the last 2 entrees . All come .undercooked ir overcooked . I asked why every dish was served 15 minutes apart . Answer .. “ they do t want them to sit” I cannot even tell you every bad thing . It began in the parking g lot with the valet . Don’t eat here ..
After reading positive reviews, my family and I were eager to try out this new restaurant. This is my 1st negative review having truly enjoyed fine tables such as Five-0 and Northern Union in Ogunquit or Via Sophia in Kbpt. This restaurant is not one I could recommend for several reasons: We ordered 4 items from the raw bar: petite oysters, tuna carpaccio, sea bass crudo and scallops ceviche. The crudo was the best plate we had all evening,it was well seasoned and the tomato water paired well. Both the carpaccio and the ceviche were too vinegary (as if a jar of capers had been poured on the tuna). The oysters never came as no one informed our server that they were out of that item. We enquired about them once the other dishes were done and we were not offered an alternative. With respect to the mains, the wood smoked halibut was lacking in taste, the “blue” filet mignon was at best medium-rare (although the the seasoning was fine). Two of us had mussels as mains. Almost half of them were closed shut or undercooked and the 3 sides of fries we ordered were so salty they we inedible. The side of asparagus was our 2nd best dish of the evening. Our biggest disappointment was the handling of our wine order. My father ordered a bottle of Louis Métaireau Melon de Bourgogne, expecting a dry wine from Burgundy. Although he did briefly taste the wine, we realized once the wine was poured that it was a much sweeter Muscadet Sèvre et Maine (not a Bourgogne). We discussed this with our server who initially offered to bring us another bottle and to comp the first bottle. Unfortunately, the server returned to the table to argue that a Bourgogne is the same grape as a Muscadet, then her manager came to the table and started arguing rudely with my father stating that he had tasted and accepted the wine. We did not dare criticize the food. The owners should be made aware of how poorly trained the wait and kitchen staff are and how poorly supervised the restaurant is in their absence.
10 out of 10 would recommend! Outstanding staff and food and a beautiful view. Easy to book reservations online.
They have done a great job with interior. My lobster spaghetti was very salty. The Gruner wine tasted as though it had oxidized. My second glass of Chardonnay was excellent. The table was too small for four people no place to put the menus. Others were happy with their food quality. Portions were small and the a la carte menu rolled up a fairly steep bill.
This spot was suggested by a local, as we were traveling from out of state. The manager, Jeff, was courteous, kind, and accommodating. The aesthetic was a blend of 1920’s and art deco. It was elegant and beautiful. The food was fresh, delectable, and beautifully presented. Our waitress, Lexi, was vivacious, flattering, and attentive. She made us feel welcomed and cared for. Overall service was a 10 out of 10.
