This is a place we return to when staying in Laval. The service is always good and the food is always good. They don't have a large selection of sushi but what they do offer is very good. My only knock is the ama ebi does not come with the heads. Other than that great...Bottom line is; I will be back View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Makoto Sushi:
I was looking for a real Japanese dishes and tastes restaurant, away from the fast food sushi or awful buffets you find in every corner. I thought this was going to be the one... but no.Dishes are just average, nothing special. You might not notice the difference if you've never experience real Japanese food (beyond sushi). Not much needs to be said. This is one of the best sushi spots I've been to date! The food is freshly made and the waiter catered to our every need. He ensured that we were served exacted what we wanted and the chef had gone above and beyond to make a great variety of sushi of us. We will most definitely be returning here and I highly recommend this place.
Not many words are required - this is one of the best sushi places in the world in my opinion and I miss eating there very much. The food is always fresh, service is not very good and slow but the taste is worth it all.
When the waiter said to our little group of 3 to stay away from "La table d'hote" menu at $29.95 per person because it wasn't the best sushi selection, I was very confused... He suggested we ordered from the $15.00+ sushi roll menu. It was clear they weren't very proud of their sushi chef plater! Well, we ended up ordering sushi and rolls a la carte. The waiter was right: there wasn't much to be proud of... The rice was very pasty, making the sushi very chewy and heavy. So we quickly turned our sushi into sashimi as the meat was good, but we couldn't do anything about our rolls. And who leaves more then half their rolls uneaten at a sushi restaurent? Unsatisfied costumers like us! One good thing about this place? It's a bring your own wine...
We perused the extensive menu but requested that the Chef' surprise us. Our waiter asked if we had allergies or foods that we did not want, then proceeded to present us with one plate after another, pacing every dish perfectly so that we could savor the taste and enjoy our wine. He was intuitive enough to note that we may have come to the end of the meal and suggested dessert. We did, however, reorder one of the dishes in addition to a dessert plate. The food was enticing, the flavors sophisticated. The portions were correct. A plate could have held more but that would have hindered one's anticipation for the next offering. The cost is reasonable, in part due to the fact that one can bring their own wine, and bottle chillers are reqdily available.$86.00 CDN tax in but beforethe tip, for two: 4 different plates, with 1 reordered twice, plus a dessert plate. The restaurant is busy Reservations are recommended.
