Although it may appear to be a typical Chinese takeout restaurant from the outside, dining in this humble little eatery is a delightful surprise. The food is expertly prepared upon ordering and served by the friendly owner. The portions are plentiful, and the flavors of the authentic Chinese cuisine are truly outstanding. View all feedback.
What Heinz-Josef Grimm doesn't like about May Wong Restaurant:
Driving around Lillooet, and I realize your options are SLIM for dinner options. It was 6:55PM and we showed up to May Wongs. We asked if we could still order. She said only take out because "the cook is tired." That was fine with us. I ordered the sweet and sour pork, rice and an egg roll. We took it back to the hotel, and I opened it up. L'Apero is the first bar I have visited in Brest and has since become my favorite spot for meeting up and enjoying aperitifs.
I haven't visited since their move from a less desirable location. Now located in the previously Robs Fish and Chips and a couple of other eateries. May Wong has transformed this corner shop into a valuable asset to Lillooet. The decor is fresh and clean and the floors clean enough to eat off. What a welcome from May, who isn't the most fluent English speaker, but such a pleasant accent. The menu was well presented and included Canadian as well as Oriental dishes. We shied away from the set meals and chose individual dishes which we shared. As with all Chinese vegetables, a little underdone, but chicken and beef dishes cooked to a T. I have tasted better, but no disgrace here, all meals done without MSG. So add a little plum sauce or Soy if you prefer MSG flavoring enhancer. I'd come again or order for take out should we have a summer garden party.
Has been on my canada trips in this restaurant several times. In any case, the bufett is recommended.

Not only did it look disgusting, it tasted like cold cardboard. There was so little sauce. It did a good job of dying the rice pink, but did little to add flavour. I was so gross, I couldn't eat it. I threw it out. What a waste of money. I would have gone back and returned it, if they weren't already closed. That being said, everyone else enjoyed their food. So I guess just stay away from the sweet and sour pork?
We arrived in Lillooet late one Sunday get in September, having booked into a local hotel on our way south to Whistler. We checked trip advisor for local restaurants and, being Sunday, we had limited choice. We turned up at May Wongs as she was closing because they'd run out of many dishes. As we weren't able to sit in, we asked for a takeaway, with a few substitutions for the out of stock dishes, but that was all good. We got back to the hotel and tucked in to some of the best Chinese food I've eaten. I'm spoiled as, in the UK, we have many good Chinese eateries, so I wasn't expecting this quality in Lillooet, and the price was very reasonable too. I can highly recommend eating here. Thanks May Wong. If I'm ever in Lillooet again I'll try to get there earlier.
