Coya - London

I visited this place with my partner on 26 January night. Everything was smooth and we almost finished our night with very positive vibes but unfortunately Mr Gorav ruined everything in just 10 seconds… We had our last drinks at 00:45 and at 01:00am music finished and it was like a time to leave. At 01:05am Mr Gorav came to us and said that it is time to leave, with what we certainly agreed, but only after we are going to finish our last drinks tho as we have PAID for them already, which would have taken no more than 3-5 minutes. This unacceptably rude and impolite guy told us that we have 30 seconds to leave this building or we will be kicked out by FORCE! Just imagine that! I am sitting there relaxing with my girlfriend and I have been told that a bouncer will come and KICK ME OUT!!! They just made a harassment on me in front of my girlfriend (who can confirm it btw ! We did not do anything unacceptable or wrong. BY THE WAY NO ONE INFORMED US THAT EXACTLY AT 1AM WE HAVE TO BE OUT WITHOUT FINISHING OUR DRINKS! After that we asked them to provide plastic cups (as they usually should do in that type of situations, but we have been refused as well! So no plastic cups, 30 seconds to leave, thats all! I assume for that kind of restaurant and also for that high prices this is not the service you would expect from them…

Simple, clear, cheap, exactly as it should be. Coya is a real Japanese restaurant where you will feel like you are in Tokyo.

Food was good until our mains arrived which were over salty and the beef fillet inedible. Drinks were ok but they struggled with a simple custom request and bartender seemed inexperienced and like she didn’t want to be there. I quite enjoyed sitting in the bar area despite the wobbly tables and wobbly chairs. Service was very good hence the three stars. But food simply not up to standard it should be and definitely not worth the money. It has really gone downhill since we went a few years ago. Three stars is simply for the great service and attentiveness of the waiters. However my husband spotted a mouse in the smoking area on the way out.. so we probably won’t be returning.

We went with friends, after a recommendation and we weren’t disappointed. Great to see a restaurant who recognise themselves as specialists and live up to it. Remarkable restaurant if you would like to enjoy Peruvian cuisine and cocktails. We had 2 ceviche dishes, baby squid and beef skewers for starters. The ceviches were phenomenal and much better than some hyped Peruvian biggies in London. Perfect balance of citrus and other ingredients, helping the quality of the fish to shine. I would recommend this restaurant just for their ceviche skills. Having said that, other dishes were equally delicious and impressive. Even the aubergine side. The Peruvian bass and tiger prawn were delicious as mains. It was the biggest tiger prawn I have ever seen. The tres leche is a must have for dessert. Don’t forget to drink pisco sour while you are waiting yummy cocktails. We really enjoyed our dinner and would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

PLEASE AVOID!! I’ve been there for drinks on Friday night. Me and my partner had 3 cocktails and around 00:30am the waiters told us that they are doing the last drinks order. We decided to have another cocktail and around 00:45 we got them. Unfortunately, straight ahead at 1am one of staff members who’s name was Gorav told us we have to leave the building IMMEDIATELY despite the fact that our cocktails haven’t been finished, our glasses were half full. We asked for just few minutes more to stay there and finished our cocktails, because no one informed us that exactly at 1am we have to be out of the building. THIS GUY THREATENED US TO BE KICKED US BY FORCE!!!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!! THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!! This night was going on really well until this GUY ruined EVERYTHING!!!!! I finished my cocktail just after 30 seconds. I’ve been in this restaurant so many times, and not only in London. I know so many people who are working there and in Dubai COYA AS WELL!!!! If no one of the staff members going to look at this situation seriously, then unfortunately I will have to proceed further legally and I won’t leave the situation the way it is now !!!!!!
