Walked by this spot while staying nearby during a business trip to London and glad that I did! Nice atmosphere, music, and calming setting. The staff were very welcoming and kind and service was excellent. I tried the beef gyudon, which was flavorful and the beef was tender and delicious. I hope to come back to try the sushi! What WingWingOne doesn't like about SO Restaurant:
One of the oldest japanese restaurants in London, and the main clients here were Japanese. Apparently the restaurant has a good reputation within the Japanese society here. The service was excellent, quick and very friendly. The food was japanese cuisine with a western twitch. We tried lots of different dishes... some were good, but there were also some misses. About the freshness of the food, no complaints, but that... View all feedback.
We came here on the day of London Pride, they were able to sit us down on the bar without a reservation. The staff were very helpful and great with sitting us down. They gave us menus for food and drink. They took our order and the food came out with plenty of time. The quality was amazing. It had lots of flavour and was very tasteful. For my first experience here it was great and they were able to cater for us.
A short walk away from piccadily circus makes this restaurant easy to get to provided you know where you are going when meandering the back streets around London Soho area. Place was smart and decor looks reasonable, I didn't have any issues with being seated at the counter as it was just me and my wife. Large groups may wish to book in advance to avoid disappointment. We went for the lunch time set menu which was still diverse enough to have something to suit different preferences. Food came pretty swiftly and very well presented. Taste was great and the tempura was exceptional as you sometimes get the scent of overly used oil when it's not been changed often. Here it was all done very well. Staff were attentive but not pushy. Overall a great lunch time experience.
About the freshness of the food, no complaints, but that also came at a for london correct price... so not cheap. Wine that was recommended was a real miss... and could not be served with the food... too sweet, no acidity. So better stick with the Japanese beers and sake. Overall not bad, correct for its price but certainly not exceptional. I ve been in much better japanese restaurants in london
We LOVE this restaurant. Fantastic food and amazing service. Very friendly staff. Our 3rd visit and we will definitely return
Fine restaurant, busy at lunchtime, which bodes well. Menu wasn’t too varied but got a decent meal. Service was speedy. Would return!
