I like this place. It is not fancy. It is not pretentious. It is what it is.The pasta looks good and tastes good. And there is a reasonable choice of pasta, although not too much choice for the sauces. For many years Donnini's was only a place where you could buy fresh pasta. Over the past 6 months or so, it has expanded (same walls) to include a restaurant, initially very basic (no tea or coffee served) but now food... View all feedback.
What Bryana Frami doesn't like about Donnini's Pasta:
The pocket of restaurants in this locality seems to be notable for high prices, for no good reason that was obvious to me. Donnini's is presumably an offshoot of the long-established trattoria in Carlton, but it's very small, basic, and lacks character. The service was indifferent; the quality of food was nothing special, and the prices far too high. View all feedback.
Great range of fresh pasta made daily on the premises. Great service. They also now offer meals and coffee. I haven't tried these but their homemade Italian deserts look delicious.
I recently tried their coffee and found it to be quite enjoyable. The restaurant is usually not very crowded, but their pasta is excellent. I also noticed that customers are able to sit by the window with their laptops.
Domino's, unrelated to D's on Lygon, has been a long-standing restaurant that I have known since the days of filling up my Volkswagen Beetle for $5. Nonna Donini used to serve me her delicious pasta, ranging from Agnoloti to simple spaghetti, ensuring that her unique pasta recipes are still enjoyed today. Recently, they have added tables to their cozy shop where you can enjoy their exquisite pasta dishes and finish off with a delicious Macchiatto and mouth-watering Cannelloni with fresh custard fillings. You can also take away some spinach and plain angel hair pasta with a generous container of mushroom or meat ragu to enjoy at home. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, making Donnini's the perfect spot for a Saturday afternoon treat after a week of demands from family and kids.
The homemade pasta at this restaurant is absolutely fantastic! I tried the ravioli with pea and broad bean pancetta, as well as the pumpkin ravioli, and they were both delicious. I highly recommend this place for its authentic, good quality pasta.

Over the past 6 months or so, it has expanded (same walls) to include a restaurant, initially very basic (no tea or coffee served) but now food, tea and coffee and importantly, wine. Pasta and wine do go together.
