Contribute FeedbackKumo, a Japanese restaurant in Melbourne, offers a unique dining experience with a mix of traditional and more unusual dishes. While some found the food to be standard and not outstanding, others appreciated the fresh and flavorful produce and the attentive service. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere and a good selection of sake, making it a great spot for a quiet meal. Despite some mixed reviews about the food and service, Kumo's Japanese aesthetic and overall dining experience left a positive impression on most patrons.
Online order, pickup. Easy to use.<br/ <br/ Japanese dishes sometimes don't travel well with their delicate textures but the flavour is packed in. <br/ <br/ Ramen gnocchi, $16.5, is rich and flavoursome.<br/ <br/ House made kimchi, $8.50 is a good shelf stable.<br/ <br/ Frozen veggie curry, $14.50, ready to whip out for a meal later.
3.7 I’d give this placeMy mrs really really liked itI didn’t like it as muchThey were really accommodating with allergies, although worked out to be detriment as we weren’t able to have any of the meat dishes so we had all vegetarian and seafood optionsHighlights being the popcorn octopus and the best miso eggplant I’ve had anywhere in Melbourne Decor, ambience, drinks and service were all excellent, will come back one day but with different company haha
What an incredible space. It used to be a bank and has maintained much of the original structure but the interior is complemented by smooth wood and glass fixtures and vintage-looking light fixtures and shadowboxes of plants and panels of Japanese-inspired art.<br/ <br/ The menu is also 'Japanese-inspired ' but not totally traditional, with options like miso ice cream in a fried bao and cheesy ramen gnocchi. The former was okay in composition but the ice cream alone was great and tasted like buttermilk. The latter was rich but a really cool concept that packed tons of flavour and texture. Other dishes I tried included the nasu dengaku, which was not as soft as what I expected but had a nice sauce and salad on top, and the small but hearty potato salad tacos which are wonderful with a drizzle of katsu sauce and a squeeze of lemon on top.<br/ <br/ There 's also a varied selection of Hitachino Nest beer (my favourite) including the super delicious and malty Extra High, plus some sweet and interesting cocktail options. I tried the rhubarb and citrus and vodka one who 's name I can 't remember. It was good but I 'd stick to the beers and wines and sakes next time.
Kumo Izakaya is located along Melbournes famous Lygons street... the food there was pretty decent however the prices was quite expensive..The highlight was the prawn taco and the fish roe udon.. good experience and great for special occasions...
Warm and friendly greeting, with very attentive and responsive servers. As soon as a plate was finished, it was promptly swiftly cleared. The presentation couldn't be more beautiful, with fresh and flavourful produce to match. I love the array of entree sized options, that can be tasted but not overindulged in.The recommendation of sake was perfect, pairing quite nicely with the food and expectations of the night.
