The Savoy Tavern was interesting. I stopped here for a drink while wandering around the downtown area. Although I didn't have anything to eat here, I did enjoy a beer at the bar.I was struck at the amount of different "vibes" at this place; there was dance music upstairs, sporting events on at the bar, and tables around the perimeter of the room that were set up for easy conversation. We were looking for a place for lunch for 6 adults. The exterior was not inviting, sin fact I wasn't even sure it was open. Inside, the place was spacious and very seventies in decor. The booths are large and comfortable, and the bar area clean and accessible. The food was typical pub grub, however the serves of chips and wedges were extremely generous, one serve would feed two hungry adults easily. For some reason t... View all feedback.

For some reason the house Chardonnay was $10 per glass, even in happy hour. Overall, was ok but there are better places around.
Recently visited savoy for birthday drinks and it was great. We could have the back bar area to ourselves and sit around the tv, open a tab and enjoy with friends. Service isn't great not a whole lot of enthusiasm by the bar staff but it's a casual place to just unwind for drinks.
Many years ago, this was a thriving pub. A pub for the general public (as a pub would suggest). There was rock music and even a beer garden. Then something changed. Hipsters, yuppies moved in. They thought they could change the place to make it more suave yet somehow market the venue on its original 70's/80's appearance. I'm sorry but that is where the compliments end. You charge $10 bucks a beer, $12 bucks for a bowl of chips, deliver service that is quizzical and without a smile. Your seats are rotten. They are teared at the seams. You're tables are dirty, sticky and with scribble. You're trying to get in the footy crowd and cash em in as well. Yeah yeah you got a 12 dollar lunch special but what infact is it? Scraps? sloppy seconds? If you want hipster, if you want yuppy .... then change the name, change the design. You're fooling people making out you are a decent, if not "yobbo - style" 80's bistro yet when they arrive expecting the same you charge over the top prices and have a pecking order when it comes to clientele and the service you provide. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong ! Never again!
I popped in for a few drinks with colleagues on the weekend, Friday night, and the place was buzzing.A great vibe, food available, plenty of beers on tap and choice of drinks behind the bar.Even though it was busy, every time i went to the bar i was quickly serviced and there was little to no wait! love it! Not many bars offer this service nowdays! My friends even comments on this superior service, keep it up!A good after work crowd tend to flock here, outside smoking area, water available free of charge on the bar, and friendly bar staff. Thanks, ill pop in next time im back in Melbourne.
