Contribute Feedback What Étienne Chretien doesn't like about Du Jorat:
View all feedback.
I went there a few nights ago with a friend. We had an enchanting evening. The food was excellent, elegant, well presented and delicious. The service was excellent, efficient and warm. We ordered the surprise menu for two and were very pleasntly surprised. It consisted of five courses and an amuse bouche as follows:Amuse bouche a Gazpacho revisiter very nice and elegantly presentedFollowed by an amazing foie grass with a strawberry and rhubarbe chutneyFollowed by noix de de st jacques in a very light bisque. Followed by magret de canard with a caviar d'aubergine and other vegetablesFollowed by a cheese plate and for dessert this was the only part of the meal that didnt impress me much taste wise but the presentation was excellent. It was a trompe d'oeil tagliatelli (didnt figure out what it was made of) and ice cream with a coulie de fruit rouge. The five course menu was CHF128/person which is reasonable to a bit expensive but there was serious work had gone into it and very good and nobel ingredients utilized so cant complain on that front. My two criticisms would be:The decor is a little cold for the quality of cuisine. It should be a little cozier more romantic. They play too much on the surprise element. At some point you get the impression you are dining at the CIA or KGB canteen. Practically everything was a surprise and they really kept the secret even when pressed when ordering. That evening we played along and were not disappointed but not sure I would be willing to play along everytime. I get it, its there concept but its a bit risky not sure how that would play in abusiness meal for example. To be fair they did ask what we liked and disliked in order to fashion the surprise in accordance with our taste. Overall these are minor compared to the excellence that was presented on the plates and in our mouths. I have no problems with recommending this gem in the middle of no where.
Hervorragend.

Outstanding. Simple and delicious. Great service, relaxed atmosphere given the reputation of the chef. Not pretentious at all.
