What Ty T doesn't like about Schneider's Food & Drinks:
I typically like this place for a random lunch during the week when I 'm off of work and I like Denise, the daytime bartender quite lots. As a bartender of over 20 years, Denise is what I love in a bartender. Friendly, knows what I drink and knows what I eat so my issue isn 't with her. Schneider's oozes Wisconsin pride and is a throwback to neighborhood watering holes of yesteryear. It's not a fancy establishment but what it lacks in that area it more than makes up for it with the service and price. Upon entering, I walked directly past the wide open dining area no doubt packed for their well known Friday fish fries. The front bar area is dimly lit and the walls are adorned with Packers, Badgers, and Brewers gear. A quintet of middle aged guys sat at the bar playing bar dice. College football was broadcast on the small flat screen TV. You won't find $11 cocktails or ironic mustaches here just cold beer, deep fried appetizers, and a helluva burger special on Saturday afternoons. Our server and the bartender were incredibly nice and quick to check in multiple times throughout our too brief visit, though the bartender didn't seem to know the difference in what was on tap. One of the beers we ordered tasted flat and it was quickly replaced with no fuss. The appetizer platter arrived quickly and hit the spot onion rings, chicken tenders, deep fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks. Sure, none of these were lovingly made by a white capped chef cursing out their subordinates, but that's not why you go to a place like Schneider's. You go here to get a better feel for your neighborhood, to enjoy a (cheap) draft beer, and to possibly get convinced to play bar dice. Did I mention the burger special? $1.75 until 3pm for a burger toppings (cheese/bacon are 50 cents extra). You're telling me I could grab a burger, fries, and a beer for a 5 spot? Sold! We'll be back for sure to try the fish fry our first experience here was solid and all but guaranteed a return visit in the near future.
Good place to come for a reasonably priced fish fry that actually is pretty good. Customer service is awesome. atmosphere is homey, funny because we are actually in a house that has been remodeled.
I love the food at Schneider 's. Their fish fry is delicious and their pizza is so yummy. My family always got our Saturday pizza from Hup 's pizza. We used to pick up the pizza until the neighborhood got to the point where they needed security in their lot, then we started ordering delivery. They no longer deliver so they have lost my business. I had never had Schneider 's pizza until I had it at a party. Schneider 's is right in my neighborhood, so when a want great pizza I go there. I 've always had great service, food and family atmosphere. Until Saturday 2/29, when I called in an order and it was so noisy the waitress taking my order had an extremely hard time hearing me because of a party. After speaking loudly and repeating the order back and forth I made my way to the restaurant. Upon arriving the lot was so full that I just parked behind so cars to run in and get food. When I got into the restaurant the music was at such an extremely loud decibel I thought I was going to lose my hearing and I had to make my way through the crowd and to the kitchen door to get service. I felt so bad for the staff and was glad that I didn 't work there and have to be subjected to it. My suggestion is, that if you have a private party you close the restaurant take out orders and have a recording that says Closed For Private Party . If I had known that I was going to be subjected to that volume of music I wouldn 't have ordered. As it was when I couldn 't find parking I almost left. And would not have entered building. Upon arriving home and opening my pizza, the order was wrong. I had ordered a 12 sausage, mushroom, onion and extra cheese. What I got was a 12 pepperoni, mushroom, extra cheese. I do not blame the nice lady who took my order, I blame the owner of the restaurant for allowing the music to be that loud. I don 't know how the people could even hear each other speaking, as it was my ears were ringing when I got outside and only being in there for 10-15 minutes. This will not prevent me from patronizing Schneider 's but I wanted to offer my suggestion for future situations such as this.
Often in Milwaukee or Wisconsin a restaurant is rated on the quality of its Friday Night Fish Fry. Last night we checked out Schneiders. This is one of those places that has been in business a long time and we drive by often and say we should check out their fish fry one of these days . It is a huge old white house sitting on a hill with a large parking lot. Although it sits in the middle of the city on a fairly busy street, you almost feel like you are up north Wisconsin. There is a bar as you walk in and then two dining areas. It looks like one of the dining rooms is typically cleared after dining and becomes part of the bar with dart boards and big screen TVs. We ordered a couple of beers check it out, they have Blatz on tap! And then checked out the menu which is ridiculously cheap. I don 't know how they make money when they are only charging $3.95 for a hamburger and $9.95 for their fish fry. I went with the perch. Came with 5 large pieces of lightly breaded perch, a pile of little potato pancakes, applesauce, a side of coleslaw, tartar sauce and two pieces of rye bread. As fish frys go, this is one of the best I 've had in quite a while reminded me of the up north fish frys I was used to getting when I was a kid. I could only eat two of the perch as there was so much food. They also offer cod and walleye at ridiculous prices. My husband had a personal 9 pizza with the works and he commented that it tasted like pizza should taste...in a good way. I didn 't try it, but it did look good and he ate it all. Our servers were attentive and friendly. This place isn 't fancy, and it is not going to be that impressive trendy place to bring your out of town guests, but for a quick, casual, good meal at a decent price, it can 't be beat. Only two negatives. We were at a table near the men 's room and I could smell that oh so unmistakable odor of urinal cake whenever the door opened. And the bar smokers stood just outside the front door which meant you had to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke on your way in and out. At least they opened the door for us...
