Great offerings on the menu with authentic flavours and a wonderful bustling vibe we enjoyed a great meal here on two occasions before the theatre. Excellent tasty food. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Mashawi:
There is no point in going to a restaurant that claims to specialize in tajines when the tajine you order seems to be a pre-made, possibly mass-produced stew served on couscous in a cold tajine. It all seems very cynical. The cold tajine is brought to the table and the lid is quickly removed. Only those who cannot cook for themselves (which I suspect is many people) would find this food to be "delicious". The dolmade... View all feedback.

I really have to thank Elias as the wonderful team at Mashawi! On the recommendation of a few team members who had eaten there recently, we had Mashawi cater this year’s work Christmas/EOY dinner and it was amazing. We have an office of diverse cultures and appetites, and the food sent to us by Mashawi was delicious and incredibly generous. The food came to us warm, fresh and beautifully presented on platters. We were given an absolute feast of dips, hot tapas and tagines, (also catering for our vegetarians & vegans team members). Pretty much everyone had seconds at some point through the night. We’ll definitively continue to cater with Mashawi.
Was going somewhere else, saw this newly opened Moroccan place and made a beeline for it but perhaps should have stuck with my original plan but I'm a sucker for tagine. The decor is good and the staff were great, good start, complimentary bread basket was fantastic, even better start !That's all well and good but it has to be backed up by the food, it wasn't.Had the vegetable soup, couldn't taste the veg for the salt, great texture though !Then the lamb / prune tagine with rice ..... well it was served in a tagine but it wasn't cooked in the tagine. As previously mentioned in earlier reviews, I've eaten tagine in Morocco, fabulous ! Paris, more fabulous ! London and the surprise was, fabulouser !! So it doesn't matter where you are, just the authenticity of the dish, this wasn't authentic. There was absolutely no blending of flavours, the rice was bland and watery, the lamb was just ok, no complexity of flavours, the prunes were just ok, tasted like prunes but that was it, the meal was just ok tending towards very mediocre. The food might improve with time but realistically I doubt it and I won't know, I won't be there, shame really.....
Loved the service! good Bellydancing! Looks like Mashawi are all over the world! Great mixture of Lebanese, Moroccan and Turkish..
Mashawi has an authentic Moroccan menu that is entirely different to just about anything else on Beaufort Street. To try Mashawi - you need to be prepared to try new things - and you wont be disappointed. For my first visit it was all about the Falafels, as well as the Spinach cigars, and the Tagine of Chicken, Olive and Potato. It was mouth-watering, and it was amazing. For my 10 year old son ... it was a tall Banana and Fig smoothie. This place has wonderful service, truly inspirational food, and waiters wearing cute little Fez hats. My best find for 2016!
