We moved from Grand Rapids to Muskegon a couple years ago and I’ve been trying every Chinese place in town to find one that compares to GR food. This is far and away the best one. The chicken was crispy and not stringy at all which has been my biggest issue with other places I’ve tried. The rangoons were crispy and packed full of filling. What Katrina Barnes Jackson doesn't like about China Star:
Very over priced for what you get. Fried foods all over cooked or over held and hard to chew. Very frustrated that my family could've went to the Chinese buffet for the same price. View all feedback.
I hate to say it, but the place is not near what it used to be. Order was not right and missing items, of course we did not find out until we are home. Had to drive all the way back there for them to correct, only to have more missing items the second time around, items that were left in the bag! To be clear, items I had the first time around are missing the second time around. I even looked to make sure the original missing items were there, as well as the corrected food. I did not think I had to look for something that was already there! I don’t go out very often, but when I do, I go to places that treat me right and have a good value. While prices have gone up, it’s to be expected, the service, and attention to detail have certainly dwindled. So an hour of my day to find out that I may not go here again, based solely on the customer service. All of this was after an overcharge that had to be corrected in store.

I ordered to go. Food was okay. But the service, even for take out, was horrible. The order was, with tip, over $100. Included in the order was a small hot and sour soup. I asked for a package of fried noodles and was told, Oh, no, they do not come with the soup . Really!! They were going to charge me extra for the package of noodles. Also, their portions are hard to calculate. Small is not a pint and large is not a quart. They put some of the entree in half of a take out carton and white rice in the other half. I was trying to figure out how much to order for our group and, after two phone calls to try to understand portions with no helpful clarification, I made my best guess. I had a lot of leftovers!!! I will find another place for my Chinese next time.
High prices but massive portions. Absolutely awesome food
