Had a 60th birthday party for 30 guests at Sandbar today and extremely pleased at how smoothly everything went. Wonderful service from Rohan and staff, great cocktail food and the views over Newcastle beach and coast unrivalled. Rohan made sure everything ran smoothly and his...friendly, helpful manner took the worry out of arranging the function. Would highly recommend Sandbar for a relaxed special occasion. What Brielle Hermiston doesn't like about Bistro Sandbar:
Had lunch at Bistro Sandbar today and was very disappointed. On arrival we asked for a cocktail and the waitress informed us that there wasn't any because they had been very busy the night before and had run out of spirits. Our meals were very nice but there was no dessert menu because those greedy buggers from Saturday night had eaten them all too!!!You would think that when you had a large group book for lunch they... We had Sunday morning breakfast here recently whilst not a large menu there was enough to cover our taste buds and I can honestly say the quality and servings plus the prices of the food were more than acceptable. Everything was to our liking including the lovely setting overlooking the sundrench beach of Newcastle. We must return to sample lunch!!
Had an amazing meal here today. Best calamari I've ever tried, and the barramundi was superb and fresh. Non seafood eaters are catered for too, my friend has a chicken dish which was cooked to perfection. Would recommend to anyone wanting a nice meal by the water. There isn't that many beachfront choices surprisingly for newy, but out of the options I think this rates the highest for quality and service. Lovely decor too. Great little waterfront restaurant.
When booking, we advised there would be a vegetarian in the group. When we were ordering there were no vegetarian mains available and were told only the paella could be made without any meat or seafood and replaced with vegetables... but that meant no one else at the table (and presuming the rest of the restaurant?) could not order paella due to using one pan. As veg paella was the only option, sad negotiation meant it was ordered and limited other's choices. Said paella came out very bland with only added onions and some small pieces of capsicum. Pretty disappointed as was looking forward to the lunch for a long time.
We called in for lunch. We started with salt n pepper calamari with which the calamari tasted really fresh but there was a lack of salt and pepper seasoning. We both had the grilled fish, salad and chips as a main. Could not fault it. Fresh, fresh, fresh, and delicious. What arrived on our plates was exactly what we were hoping for on arrival at the restaurant. A good size serving and staff were spot on. The view of Newy beach was great. I recommend booking ahead and requesting a table overlooking the beach.
Head on up to Sandbar - whale watching; delicious food; fantastic service; brilliant chef. Breakfast, lunch or dinner...you can't go wrong!
