What we had was a pizza kinda thing called a "Flammkuchen" a thin based dough with lots of onion, minced meat and some spices! It's was enjoyable as anything can be if you have it for the first time! Although there was way too much onion on it, maybe more meat would have been better!
We came with large group but had made reservations outside. It was in an elevated area with trees and canopies, so was still relatively cool even in the sun. The staff was helpful, friendly and accommodating. The food was traditional for the area and was very good. I tried the Schaeufala, which I had never had before, but really liked it! The restaurant is just on the edge of the altstadt, but an easy walk from the DJH Jungendherberge. If I get back to Nuernberg, this will be a place I make sure to stop at again!
Our hotel was near Hauptbaunhof so we ventured into the old part of the city every night of the three we stayed in Nuremberg. This place was such an excellent find. The weather was perfect for eating al fresco. Loved watching kids play in the children's area and the seating was on picnic tables with blankets in case we had a chill. Perfect place for people watching, and enjoying company and Nuremberg. My hubby and son got the fleischpfanzerl and ate it all! They said it was the German equivalent of meatloaf, good comfort food. I ordered a ham dish with the white asparagus spargel I had heard so much about. They offered lots of spargel options on the specials menu as they are in season this time of year. My parents both got burgers. We all ate most or all of our food as it was so delicious and the service was excellent. Our server was very personable to us Americans even though they were quite busy. Do not miss this hidden gem if you are visiting Nuremberg!
A very pleasant place to spend time with friends and eat something local. very tasty, good prices. the restaurant is situated in a beautiful building. the summer garden is awesome. It's very close to the Old Town of Nuernberg. I recommend this place to all tourists:)
The guidebook was right; this place is great. Surprisingly, it wasn't crowded when we arrived on a Tuesday evening. We were seated promptly at a table with plenty of room for our group of seven. Though most customers seemed to be locals, there were English-language menus for those who needed them, offering a good selection of items reasonably priced. Service was quick and professional, and the food was great. (I recommend the Sauerbraten, with a Kellerbier.)
