We used to visit this restaurant regularly. Changes in ownership have altered the menu and quality. Still a good Fish restaurant and worth a visit if you are in Oakville. View all feedback.
What Krista Cronin doesn't like about Oakville Fish N Chips:
Been there twice now for the Cod and Chips. The chips were tasty and well prepared both times. Not over cooked and too crispy. Just right. Unfortunately on both occasions it was a Friday lunch time and I can only assume they were in rush to serve me my take out order. I appreciate getting me on my way quick as I only have so much time for lunch, but I would have rather waited for done fish. The batter was less that a... View all feedback.
Stopped by and did not know what to pick, Cecilia was just amazing, she helped and advised me after asking a bunch of questions :-) I really enjoyed the to go meal, they have a dine in too.The fish Was delicious and the chips were fresh and not greasy.
More about good food than atmosphere Very casual but excellent food A family type restaurant and very affordable
I reviewed this place 2 years ago, with a rave review. When the mood for fish and chips hit us we always make the drive into Oakville to this place as it was the best we had ever had. Today we had a craving for fish and chips so naturally this is where we went. We ended up so disappointed, seems something has changed in their products and we vow not to go back. Since it is Good Friday the menu had been scaled back some which is fine. We both ordered the halibut and chips with a side of coleslaw. (Our usual order if we can't get the combo plate) My husband requested two pieces of fish I stuck with the one piece. Out came the coleslaw, we knew instantly it was different as it never had an orange colour to it before. It tasted okay, about the same. Then out came our plates of fish and chips. I have to say I was shocked when I saw the portion of chips! That portion has been scaled back to minimum half. The fish batter wasn't as crispy as usual and about half way through we started noticing the batter seemed doughy and the fish seemed mushy. The chips were also different, more like McCain fries you can make at home We are thinking perhaps they have a new cook? It was obvious xtra staff were in today for the holiday rush they were expecting. (Not too busy yet when we got there at 4:00 pm ) To be honest the meal was not good and we were very disappointed. I had intended to end my meal with coffee and a dessert but I feared what they may have done to the desserts so we didn't bother. Paid our bill and left. I realize maybe we should have complained but we didn't as obviously changes have been made and there is no point arguing with change. We will just make our own change, there is a pretty good place we pass on our way to this one, so we'll go in there. Sorry to see that this wonderful place isn't what it used to be.
This is the fish and chips that I love closest to home especially as there is a little eat in space to sit and enjoy your meal while it is hot and fresh. This is best for us as this location is a half hour away on the highway from home. The portion is generous and the creamy coleslaw is delicious! Oh and don't forget a side of tartar sauce and gravy to compliment crunchy fish and hot fries. Of course the best accompaniment is the customer service that this seemingly family business provides. Fast, friendly, welcoming and always with warm smiles. A lovely treat tucked just off lakeshore.

The batter was less that a golden brown and the batter was wet and uncooked in by the fish.I suggest they cut the portions into halves to ensure better cooking and raise the fat temperature a few degrees. The owner/staff are quite friendly and seem to want to deliver a good product.
