I had a very enjoyable dinner here. I have put this statement at the beginning of this review, for those who don't tend to read on.I was beginning to doubt my choice of dinner destination as I entered the pub downstairs. On enquiry, I was escorted upstairs to the dining room, and I was the only one there at 6pm on a rainy Monday in the days leading up to Christmas. I was really not expecting much, and my expectations... View all feedback.
What Vicky Lee doesn't like about The Balcony Restaurant @ The Metropolitan Hotel:
We were having a work function, nice and warm, clean. However if we wanted to add a few chips to our meal (steak, veges) nothing special, we were told there would be a further $5 charge. If we wanted we could have steak, salad and chips without the surcharge. The food was counter-lunch standard but at a restaurant price. The veges were a piece of squash, a couple of slices of what was supposed to be roast potato, one... View all feedback.
Booked a table of 9 for Mother's Day lunch, first they changed the menu on us at last minute, then we waited over 2 hours for our mains. No explanation or apologies only bad attitudes from staff. Final straw was when a table that arrived after us received their mains. We decided to walk out finally learning that the kitchen hadn't even started on our mains. I'm a chef myself, I know what happens when you get swamped but they weren't overly busy. Very poor
Dinner for four on a Friday night to a restaurant that was great 5 years ago a big mistake. Setup and laminex tables from a past era and basic. Food was very very ordinary at best. Service was well below standard and the waitresses were not knowledgeable on the meals or drinks. This is a cheap eats only restaurant. We would never return.
This restaurant was reasonabllly priced with friendly staff. The food was good. There was a good selection of wine and beers.
Ate here on the balcony for nostalgia reasons as was the local frequented many years ago when on a work stint in Orange. Now enclosed and overlooking Kmart, the ambience wasn't quite the same but the food was really good. My chicken parmi was the best I'd had in any pub for years - not dry and overdone and a delicious homemade tomato sauce. Accompanying vegetables were also cooked perfectly - not soggy but with a touch of crispness. Usual dubious of pub or bistro vegies but these were actually really good! Prices reasonable and drinks list covered all bases. All round a great meal.

Cannot split the bill either, I know that is a little petty but it seemed that everything was just too much trouble, how hard is it to split the bill evenly and let everyone tap and go.
