What Lizzie Wilkinson doesn't like about Platters Seafood:
It took over 50 minutes to get a very simple meal. My order was a Trio fish plate having one of the dish less than 4 inches in length. See attached photo with knife pointing this out. 10 tables and 6 staff should have resulted in better and faster service. I want to like this place but I can't. This appears to be a small family business by people who do not have much restaurant experience. Fish soup was so-so. Scolop... View all feedback.
Sunday dinner before Christmas, the interieur differs greatly from earlier. the seductive decorative eccentricities are all gone. now there are bright lighting and large bold murals of fish and cancer on both walls. Sunday midday were busy and jolly with families, busiest slots of the week with a non-stop hectic flow of funeral boards in the middle of the nabenbub. not this time. the selection of printed menus resembled his predecessor, although the signature alternatives to fish dishes were unwashed with a blue marker pen. we ordered and the food didn’t take long to arrive, but the prawn tagliatelle was finally left half uneaten, because it lacked taste or taste, the muddles were finished, but disappointing and the portions of fish and chips ended, but “not from the usual”. the meal and visit were both a bit flat and we did not have around for puddings. eating including softdrinks had total cost for being fair on “New Platters”, this was only days after the government’s health advisers had suggested that everyone should be ultra careful about public institutions and the barbican was not packed; also as the hard life very regularly fully satisfied diner under the old turntable format, we had probably hoped too much in this time. the times change and we need to adapt. at least there is a fish restaurant. Maybe it's gonna appear in the run of time.
This restaurant offers few frills, but sells on its very friendly staff and high quality fresh fish and seafood. the beautiful girl who was in front of the house could not have been more friendly and friendly. the menu is short, but there is a board that offers the specialties of the day; the day we went, we were happy enough to have dover sole on board. we have made the mistake that starter of squid and whitebait both were wonderful, but it meant that we did not even get on the chips and inherit the dover sole. the sole was slightly over boiled, but it tasted fabulously fresh. there is a short list of weeping, but they were well selected and compliment of the fish. I'm sure we had no place for a pudding.
We love Platters, Patrick and his team are so friendly and accommodating. The fish is fantastic particularly the grilled gurnard and the trio of fish, the scallops are amazing and the seafood platter is excellent value for money. All fish is fresh here and expertly cooked by chefs who really know how to cook fish, great chips and peas and wash it down with a glass of muscadet it's a proper treat! We are regulars and with my partner being a professional chef himself we find it so difficult to find fish cookery just the way we like it, so would highly recommend everyone to give it a try as it's great value for money and the best grilled fish on the Barbican!
The cod and chips were tasteless and bland, leaving us very disappointed. We paid £54.00 for the meal for three of us. This is not the way to run a restaurant. The food was subpar and we have had much better at Wetherspoon's. It is unlikely this restaurant will win any prizes with this quality of food.
Four of us went in for lunch. The restaurant was quite busy which created a nice buzz. Two of us had seafood paella which was excellent with plenty of mussels, prawns and calamari it was yum. Two had large cod and chips and demolished the lot. The service is friendly, attentive and helpful, especially useful if you have any dietary requirements or allergies. We have been before and we'll be back again very soon.
