Driven past yesterday & saw the sign said "Best seafood chowder"... hmmm OK, no time. Went back for lunch today, "BEST seafood chowder" in town or 'ever' indeed!! Perfectly "just cooked" seafood in a creamy potato/cream soup. -- would probably prefer sourdough with the dish, the bread was dense enough though.Fish & Chips - looks typical, but Dory was absolutely fresh!Desert - cheesecake (the while roll) with honeycom... What Jane Nazri doesn't like about Whalebone Wharf:
This was my favourite restaurant since moving to Port Macquarie but not anymore. Last Saturday we took our daughters for lunch who are in their forties. The waitress immediately greated us asking if we would like a champagne cocktail with a lychee and strawberry in it. That was the biggest rip of I have ever known, when the bill came it was $17.50 each. We had a large seafood bisce to share for an entree. The serving... View all feedback.

Happy with it!may be with some "blue pea flower' would looks absolutely stunning The verdict: "The Whalebone Wharf Seafood Restaurant" on Hasting river drive: definitely going back for Chowder! To top it, this tiny little bird was my companion of the day!
Have been eating at this restaurant for 16 years now. Never fails to impress. The food, service, views are fantastic!!! Had lunch there with friends today. Started with Champagne Lychee Cocktails - to die for! Followed with delicious grazing plate - dips, hot bread, pickles, olives in garlic and olive oil. Next we had the baked whole snapper - what can I say - it was "perfection on a plate". 2 excellent bottles of cab sav! Then to finish, Frangelico Affogato!! Yvette, the gorgeous young lady , who tended to our every need, was lovely - efficient, warm, professional etc.
This restaurant is set on the Hastings River, its a beautiful spot to enjoy lunch or dinner in a very relaxing atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the city. My husband and I enjoyed a very nice evening by the river with soft background music. My husband had a Prawn Hotpot entre & Seafood chowder which he said was delicious and extremely tasty and I enjoyed a Chicken with gnocchi and a variety of mushrooms in a beautiful sauce. The price is a little more than average but certainly well worth the expense. I would recommend you look at their website to make sure they have something for you on the menu as it may be limiting to those who are fussy eaters.Lunch on a beautiful winters day overlooking the river is just wonderful. You won't be disappointed.

That was the biggest rip of I have ever known, when the bill came it was $17.50 each. We had a large seafood bisce to share for an entree. The serving was very small. Our daughter had the seafood hotpot which was also very disappointing not what you would expect. Love this restaurant but will not be returning out of principle. We do not mind paying for good food but object to being ripped off.
Drove past around lunchtime and noticed had sign out advertising seafood chowder. We are a soft touch for this so we popped in for an impromptu lunchThe setting is spectacular, although restaurant was a little cold the day we visited. To be fair it would be hard heating a venue such as this with so many river facing windows.Service was excellent with staff going out of there way to provide extra bowls so we could share our chowder and mains. The chowder was good, although not best we have had, but up there with top 3. Maybe a little too much potato. But still very good. Mains were nice as well. Fish was nicely cooked, juicy and sweet. Whilst not considered a big deal for some, the chips were absolutely delicious. Sometimes the little things matter. House Chardonnay at about $10 a glass from memory was pleasantly drinkable and added to the occasionWe would definitely visit again when in the area, simply for no other reason than staff were welcoming, attentive and natural. Something hard to find in wait staff these days. .
