Some diners have mentioned mediocre food and a rushed dining experience, while others have raved about the inventive dishes and excellent service. The cozy atmosphere and New England vibes have been appreciated by some customers, while others have criticized the lack of attention from the staff and the high prices. Overall, the restaurant seems to have a mix of reviews, with some customers vowing never to return and others declaring it as their favorite date night spot.
I had visited Black Trumpet previously with my girlfriend and had requested a vegan meal, which they graciously prepared for us. The modified version of their vegetarian dish was excellent. So, when we decided to bring two of our newly vegan friends to the restaurant, we called ahead once again. This time, Evan, one of the owners and head chef, treated us to an incredible 4-course meal. The Black Trumpet sources many ingredients directly from Evan's garden and also gathers wild mushrooms in southern Maine. Evan personally delivered each dish to us and provided an explanation for each one. I must say, we received exceptional treatment during our visit. While the Black Trumpet is not known for its vegan options and offers many fish and meat-centric dishes (including foie gras on the menu), it was a fantastic experience to enjoy a top-tier vegan meal prepared by a master chef at what could be considered one of the best restaurants in the Seacoast area.
What a beautiful restaurant! hidden behind a discreet (and easy to miss) house door is a rustic/modern space. the menu is very seasonal, a bit off and fresh. the staff was hard working, friendly and eager to please. a really surprising sound and a good alternative to the usual coastal town esseries.
Beautiful ambiente, with excellent menu and wine service. the service was excellent! a little loud with the brick walls and seating.
My husband and I visited on Monday night for my birthday. We ordered a cheese plate, two small plates, two entrees and a dessert. We both had a cocktail and I had a glass of wine. The price was right $145) and the food was incredible. We were also taken aback by the service as both the manager and the other servers saw to it that we had everything we needed when our server got busy. We are in love with this find.
The menu was too 'show off ' with unusual words. The wine we chose was not available. We expected a bigger choice of fish dishes the one we had was mediocre. Service was keen but slowish.
