Any all-veg place automatically gets 3 dots from me. One more for Mary's having a great variety of items in their buffet (both hot cold) and a great price. As far as taste, I can't honestly say any of the items they served amazed me, (their marinated mushrooms comes closest) but with slim pickings for veg eats in that particular area I would be happy to still recommend this eatery. What Զօրավար Հովհաննիսյան doesn't like about Restaurant Vegetariano Mary:
I can't say it was bad, but not really good either. My first impression was of a second rate hospital cafeteria, stark white walls, a few paintings, none of the usual Mexican color or charm. Menu lacks creativity, and I almost cut my lip on the rim of a glass that should have been retired long ago. Cheap? Yes. Worth a repeat? No, there are more creative options to be found here in PV. I had eaten at Mary’s in January 2020 and was looking forward to a return visit after COVID settled down. I was not disappointed! If you are a vegetarian or vegan, this would be your go to place. I ate several breakfasts there and two lunches in my week stay. The food is outstanding, the staff are so friendly and helpful. It’s a buffet for breakfast and lunch, at a set price. Very reasonable. At breakfast time they’ll even ask if you want fresh tortillas and you can watch them make them. Each day had a lunch theme. My favorite is chile rellanos, so I made sure I was there on a Friday. Sadly I left before lunch on tamale day- Saturday. Anytime I am in PVR, this will be my “go to” restaurant.
Ate here several years ago and it was good. This time, not so much. Not much left in the buffet. The drink was supposed to be pineapple juice, but was mostly water. The most disappointing thing was that most in the restaurant were NOT wearing face masks, especially those working in the kitchen. Very unsafe. Won’t be going back any time soon. Should be reported for failing to comply with masking rules in this city.
Found this place whilst in PV for a week and really enjoyed the whole experience. A great selection of food available, buffet style, eat as much as you like, which also included water or juice and a cake type desert. Very satisfied with our first visit, so much so, that we went back again two days later and enjoyed a slightly different menu. Would definitely recommend if you are not looking for anything fancy. It is clean and the staff were very friendly.
I have eaten at this restaurant several times with vegetarian friends. The restaurant itself is nothing nice and one of the times I was there they had loud music which was really irritating as we had to yell to hear our tablemates. If you don't get there early, they run out of cheese, beans etc. Seriously - a vegetarian restaurant with no cheese or beans and they were also out of tortillas. Food was mediocre in my opinion. There are better places in PV with vegetrian cuisine. The restaurant is in an odd location and up a hill so if you are driving parking is hard. The menu changes daily so some days may be better than others. Maybe I was just there on the bad days. After two times here I avoid the place.
We have had good luck finding vegan options at most restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, but with only a few choices at each. Now we have found Mary's and it is a real goldmine. She has neen cooking veggie food for 19 years and has it down to a delicious science. Open for a breakfast and lunch buffet. Inexpensive and all you can eat. Lot's of fresh fruit and granola. Many hot options with a daily special or two. A huge pot of tasty hot coffee with cinnamon.the tofu scramble was amazing. Tortillas homemade to order. Many different homemade salsas of various degrees of hotness. Mary said to call ahead for lunch and she would make a no cheese option to her chili rellenos. Mary is helpful, greeting everyone and explaining the food. We all agree that we could eat here every day! It is straight up from the Pemex station on your way into town, a quick walk from the Sheraton.
