While the atmosphere and service are generally praised, the 10% automatic service charge has raised eyebrows, especially combined with high drink prices. Some diners found food portions generous and satisfying, while others critiqued the value for money. Nevertheless, the venue excels in hosting events, demonstrated by its attention to detail and accommodating staff during both joyful and somber occasions. Overall, despite mixed views on pricing, the Elephant Castle remains a favored choice for special dining experiences.
My partner and I had a pub lunch for two with medium-sized meals that cost nearly £50. The decor was lovely and there was ample seating available. However, for the price we paid, we probably won't dine there again.
I went to this restaurant with my family on a Saturday evening. The food was expensive and the portions were small. The children's meals were priced at £7 each, which was good, but my child only received 4 chips so we had to ask for more because he was still hungry. My partner ordered the fish and chips for £17. The fish was soggy and mushy, served in a small portion. The waitress almost spilled our drinks while serving our meals and automatically added a 10% gratuity to the bill. Overall, it was not good value for money and we will not be returning for food. We will try the Hare instead of this restaurant in the future.
I took a chance on Sunday dinner and was worried about the portion size for the reasonable price of £6.49. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion size, which actually left me unable to finish my meal! The seasonings were excellent and the meat and vegetables were delicious. I was very satisfied with my meal and will likely save my partner from cooking on Sundays by coming back here. I would also like to give a special thanks to a worker named Aimilia, whose fun and friendly energy made my experience truly exceptional. I hope to see them again next time!
Good food, friendly, efficient service beautifully decorated pub. However, they automatically add a 10% service fee to their bill, and this is at the drinks prices that are already high! Unfortunately, this makes all bad value for money. will still go, but only for a very special occasion.
My husband and I with 40 family members celebrated our 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary here. We had booked the Orangery for a private event. Because of the numbers we had pre booked our food. Mark sorted a fabulous selection for us of 4/5 choices for...each course. We had a shared cheese board on each table afterwards. The food was outstanding. Everything was really tasty, piping hot and served out to us with maximum efficiency. The staff on the day were excellent, very professional but also friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Although Mark and his wife were away that day, they left us in the capable hands of Abi, their daughter. She had ensured that there were lots of lovely touches to make the day special for us. Gold runners on the tables, little vases of flowers. She put all our table gifts in the correct places. We very much appreciated this attention to detail. We were able to play our playlist through their sound system and after we had finished there was no rush to get us out. I can highly recommend this venue for an event like this.
